Kansas-Based Aubrey Torkelson Sends Verbal To Arkansas Razorbacks

The Kansas City Blazers will give Aubrey Torkelson a sendoff to the SEC at the end of her senior high school season, as she’s verbally committed to compete in the NCAA for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. Torkelson’s main events are the backstrokes, but she’s also shown some versatility with her performances in the IM, butterfly, and sprint free races.

Last season, Torkelson lowered her best times in multiple events at the 2015 IFLY Speedo Senior Challenge meet. There, she clocked careeer bests in the 50 back (26.87), 200 IM (2:08.55), and 400 IM (4:31.85). She then went on to lower her 100 back time a month later with a 58.08 at the Midwest Winter Classic.

Torkelson’s Top Times:

  • 50 free- 24.81
  • 100 back- 58.08
  • 200 back- 2:05.85
  • 100 fly- 57.12
  • 200 fly- 2:08.63
  • 200 IM- 2:08.55
  • 400 IM- 4:31.85

When she starts at Arkansas next season, Hannam will join a Razorbacks backstroke group that includes Chloe Hannam, an SEC B-finalist in the 200 backstroke. She’ll also be training with Madison Umberger, who swam both backstrokes as a freshman at 2016 SECs. Umberger finished 31st in the 200 back and 33rd in the 100 back last season.
