Just One “A” Scratch For Day 1 Finals of Arena Pro Swim Series Austin

2016 ARENA PRO SWIM SERIES AT AUSTIN

The first evening session of the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series at Austin sees all but one A-Final remain in tact across both the men and the women.

Dana Vollmer decided to focus solely on the 100m butterfly race tonight, foregoing her 3rd-seeded spot in the first event, the women’s 100m freestyle. Vollmer clocked a swift mark of 54.44 in the 100 free, her fastest since returning to competition post-baby, but will certainly have her hands full in her signature fly event swimming alongside Swedish showstopper, Sarah Sjostrom.

With Vollmer’s scratch, High Performance Center-Ontario’s Sandrine Mainville gets bumped up to the 100m freestyle A-Final, having been seeded 9th with her time of 55.03. Subsequently, Texas A&M’s Claire Rasmus now finds herself in the B-Final.

The two other scratches on the night come in the B-Finals of the 100m butterfly races, with SwimMAC Elite’s Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace opting out of the B-Final for the women and Texas’ Joseph Schooling scratching out for the men. AVW’s absence now moves Andrea Ward into the B-Final, while Schooling’s scratch opens the door for Soeren Dahl to swim tonight.
