Jeannie Cook Commits to Kenyon for 2022 with NCAA Scoring Times

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

One of the top swimmers in the state of Alaska, Jeannie Cook has announced her intention to join Kenyon College this fall. Cook recently finished her senior year at Monroe Catholic High School in Fairbanks, Alaska and swims club with the Midnight Sun Swim Team.

At the 2021 ASAA Swimming and Diving State Championships last November, Cook was a medalist in both of her events. In the 200 IM, she only was beaten out by Olympian Lydia Jacoby for the top spot, finishing second in a lifetime best 2:09.54. She also finished behind Jacoby, as well as Jasmine Anderson, in the 100 breast, touching in a personal best of 1:04.07.

In January, Cook finished in the top-4 in all of her events while swimming at the Alaska Senior Championships. She ended with a pair of silver medals at the meet, including a lifetime best 2:14.54 in the 200 fly.

Top SCY Times

  • 100 breast – 1:04.07
  • 200 breast – 2:24.11
  • 200 IM – 2:09.54
  • 400 IM – 4:41.65

Cook will help bolster the Ladies’ breaststroke and IM groups when she comes to campus this fall, with times that would put her among the team’s top performers in the events. She’ll have three years of overlap with the program’s top breaststroke performers last season, Gabby Wei and Jennah Fadely. The pair were both finalists in both breaststrokes at the NCAA Championships, with Fadely taking bronze in both events. Wei finished as the bronze medalist in the 400 IM.

With Cook’s lifetime best times, she would have been on the edge of qualifying for the NCAA Championships last season in both breaststrokes. In the 100 breast, it took a 1:04.36 to earn an invite, while the 200 breast took 2:20.58. In the 100, her best time would have earned her a spot in the B-final at the meet.

Last season, Kenyon broke Emory’s ten year NCAA Championships streak, winning the Division III title for the 24th time in program history. Head coach Jess Book finished as the Division III Coach of the year, earning the honor for the third time in his career. Book also coached three NCAA record setting relays, with the team breaking the 200 free, 200 medley, and 400 medley relay records at the meet.
