In the prelims at the Texas Senior Circuit Meet on the campus of Texas A&M University, Fike Swim founder James Fike downed the USMS National Record in the men’s 50 Breaststroke in the 45-49 age group, clocking 29.08.

Fike’s time topped the nearly four-year-old record previously held by Jeff Commings in 29.29.

Fike shared his swim on Instagram, sharing that his time would also have been an AQUA Masters World Record, though the meet was not sanctioned for world records.

Fike would later go on to compete in the finals of the event, finishing 6th overall in 29.29, which would have matched Commings’ now former American record time.

Official American Record 🇺🇸 50BR 45-49!
Unshaved. Unrested 💪
Would’ve been a World Record, but this meet wasn’t sanctioned for it. Two weeks to make it official 🙌

The current 50 breast AQUA Masters World Record stands at 29.22, set by Hideaki Togo of Japan in September of 2019.

Back in May, Fike was even faster; while competing at the MAC Senior Meet in Mansfield, Texas, Fike raced the 50 breast in the finals, finishing 5th in 29.03, which was once again unofficially a world record time.

Fike is also the current holder of the US Masters Record in the 50 breast for the men’s 40-44 age group at 28.38, the only 40-44 swimmer under 29.
