Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Washington State announced their 2022 signing class recently, and along with it, they had a small handful of international recruits. One such recruit is Italy’s Giorgia Tononi, a distance freestyler from Brescia, Italy. Most recently, Tononi won Gold in the women’s LCM 1500 free at the Italian National Championships in August. She also picked up Bronze medals in the 400 and 800 free.

Tononi will enter the Pac-12 next season with converted free times that are in scoring range at Pac-12s. Her converted 500 free time of 4:44.70 would have earned her a place in the Pac-12 A final last year. Her converted 200 free time of 1:47.71 would have gotten her into the B final last year, and her 1650 conversion of 16:22.26 would have been good for 4th place last year.

Top Times (with SCY conversions):

  • 800 LCM Free: 8:44.61 (9:47.35 – 1000)
  • 400 LCM Free: 4:14.53 (4:44.70)
  • 1500 LCM Free: 16:46.28 (16:22.26)
  • 200 LCM Free: 2:02.56 (1:47.71)

From a team standpoint, Tononi will arrive in Pullman very close to Washington State program records. Here are the Washington State team records in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 free:

  • 200 Free: 1:46.14, Keiana Fountaine (2020)
  • 500 Free: 4:43.46, Erin McCleave (2007)
  • 1000 Free: 9:47.19, Erin McCleave (2007)
  • 1650 Free: 16:13.20, Erin McCleave (2007)

Tononi joins a historically good 2022 signing class for Washington State. Other members of the class include Dori Hathazi, Emily Lundgren, Lauren Wille, Rebeca Oviedo Cardenas, Anna Rauchholz, Kirsten De Goede, Skylar Brgoch, Emily O’Brien, Elli Moss, and Clara Anderson.

Made the trip last year when my daughter was considering WSU. Beautiful place but very difficult to get to. There are connections to the local airport but we chose to fly into Seattle and rented a car to drive across the state since we were continuing on across the US looking at a handful of other schools as well.

Long history of recruiting success at ECU..Just in the last 3 years….Look at the talented athletes recruited to ECU and what they are doing, (no longer there due to program cut 2020)….
10 Power 5 athletes
2 SEC CHAMPIONS, 1 SEC Team Champion
Czech National Champions
Most in year 1 or two when program was dropped. Point being Coach Moore lands big time talent. All Ix saying…not surprised WSU has an awesome class
