Dawson’s University of Stirling teammate Charlie Boldison also pulled the 50m/100m backstroke double, taking tonight’s longer sprint event in a time of 55.79, the only sub-56-second outing of the men’s field. Boldison holds a career-fastest of 53.94 in the event, set last year in Sheffield at the British Summer Championships.

Locally, the men’s UCD squad rocked a new Irish Senior Club Relay Record with their 800m freestyle victory. Swimmers David Prendergrast (1:53.40), Dean Power (1:55.40), Andrew Moore (1:57.33) and Alex Melennec (1:53.12) combined for a collective time of 7:39.25 to break the previous time of 7:43.52 held by NUIM. UCD now hold all 5 of the Irish Senior Men’s Club relay records.

Irish junior swimmer Mona McSharry also turned heads tonight, establishing a new Irish Junior Record in the women’s 50m butterfly. Finishing in 4th place, McSharry set the new mark in a time of 27.95. UCD’s Shauna O’Brien won the event in a time of 27.34.

McSharry was back in the pool in the 200m breaststroke, where she notched her 2nd Irish Junior Record of the night. Her time of 2:29.98 tonight nabbed gold and also surpassed her own previous junior record of 2:31.29.
