Iowa’s Seemann, Grilli, Nebraska’s Filipcic honored with Big Ten weekly awards

On the heels of a dominating win over in-state rival Iowa State, the Iowa Hawkeye women took home a pair of Big Ten weekly awards. Nebraska won its first freshman of the week honor by virtue of a clean sweep of Northern Iowa.

Senior Lindsay Seemann was honored as Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for the week of December 17. The Hawkeye swept the backstroke races against Iowa State and broke a pool record in Iowa’s winning effort. She was also a member of the winning 400 free relay in a crazy meet that saw multiple school and pool records and several lead changes between Iowa and Iowa State.

Abby Grilli took home the Diver of the Week award for Iowa. She won the 3-meter diving event against Iowa State and also took home second in a 1-2 Hawkeye sweep on 1-meter that tied up the meet after Iowa State had jumped out to an early lead. Her scores on both diving boards were NCAA Zone standards, qualifying her for the chance to diver her way to NCAAs when the post-season rolls around.

The other award, freshman of the week, went to Nebraska diver Anna Filipcic, the first time the Huskers have won a freshman of the week award in the Big Ten. Filipcic swept the boards against Northern Iowa, two of Nebraska’s 16 wins on the night. She also qualified for NCAA Zones on both boards for the Huskers.
