IM Specialist Connor Peck Becomes First Publicized 2024 Commit to Saint Bonaventure

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Conner Peck of Cary, North Carolina has announced his decision to swim and study at St. Bonaventure in fall of 2024, making him the program’s first announced commitment, male or female, for the group. Peck is currently finishing his junior year at Green Level High School while swimming club with the North Carolina Aquatic Club.

At the beginning of April, Peck swam lifetime bests in nearly all of his races at the 2023 NCAC Tar Heel Games. At the meet, he was the top performer in both the 100 breast (1:00.40) and 100 back (53.82), with both times being lifetime best performances. In one of his best events, the 400 IM, he narrowly missed his lifetime best, touching second in 4:03.31.

Peck’s lifetime best in the 400 IM comes from just a week earlier at the Sectionals meet held in Christiansburg. There, he finished with the fastest time in the B-final of the event, taking ninth in 4:01.17. That time would have been fast enough to take third overall in the A-final. He added an eleventh-place finish in the 200 breast with a lifetime best of 2:09.06 as well.

Best Times (SCY)

  • 100 back – 53.82
  • 200 back – 1:56.65
  • 100 fly – 53.61
  • 200 fly – 1:59.05
  • 200 IM – 1:53.78
  • 400 IM – 4:01.17

While Peck will give the Bonnies depth across all four strokes when he arrives on campus, his biggest contribution to the team will come in the IM events. Last season he would have been the team’s second-fastest performer in the 400 IM with his lifetime best. That time also would have been fast enough to score in the B-final of the event at the 2023 Atlantic-10 Swimming and Diving Championships. He’ll have to improve slightly in the 200 IM to get into scoring range at the conference level with the 16th fastest performer in prelims of the event touching in 1:51.58.

As a team, Saint Bonaventure finished in 6th out of eight teams at the conference championships in 2023. The program was led by Max Murray, who picked up a bronze medal in the 1650 free and a silver medal in the 500 free.

The 2022-2023 school year was the Bonnies first season under new head coach Mike Smiechowski, who took the program over following the firing of the previous head coach in July of 2022.  Smiechowski is just the second coach to lead the program since the men’s and women’s teams were combined before the 2018-2019 season.

It takes a village. Let’s not discount the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Ethan, too often we overlook the staff behind the head coach. They also had one of the highest PB% in the country at their conference meet. Definitely looks like something interesting is happening at St. Bonaventure
