WASHINGTON (January 18, 2020) – Howard University men’s swimming & diving team cruised past Marymount, 171-33, inside Burr Pool on Senior Day. With the win, HU improved its duel meet record to 5-2 and home mark to 4-1 on the season.

Howard overpowered the Saints, winning every event on the slate. During the meet, HU recognized six Bison competing in their final home contest, including Kegan Ford (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago), Noah Nicholas (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and Maalik Nixon (Peachtree City, Ga.).

Ford and Nicholas each won an individual event in their final home meet. Ford placed first in the men’s 50 Free (21.49) while Nicholas claimed victory in the 1000 Free (10:31.59).

Nixon and Ford, alongside freshmen Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago) and Miles Simon (Atlanta), finished first in the 200 Medley relay with a mark of 1:37.20.

Beckles and Simon also won their respective individual events while etching themselves into the program’s record book. After this weekend, Beckles sits eighth all-time in the men’s 100 Butterfly (51.55) and Simon earned No. 10 on the 200 Freestyle list.

On the board, junior Jalen Watson (Miami) continues to improve in his first year as a diver. The Miami native scored a career-best 164.30 in the 1-meter, which ranks him fourth all-time in school history.

Saturday (Jan. 25), Howard travels crosstown to face Catholic in a District showdown. Meet time is set for 2 p.m.

WASHINGTON (January 18, 2020) – For the second consecutive season, Howard University junior diver Christian Nickolas (Brentwood, Calif.) qualified for the NCAA Diving Championships after scoring a career-best 275.40 in the women’s 1-meter dive. With her efforts, the California native tallied the third-best score in program history.

Overall, the Bison trounced Marymount, 167-48, in Burr Pool on Senior Day. Howard won every event on the schedule.

During the meet, HU recognized six Bison competing in their final home contest, including Leanne McMaster (Kingston, Jamaica), Skylar Smith (Los Angeles) and Andreas Weech (Nassau, Bahamas).

The three seniors, along with junior DeAngela Fobbs (Upper Marlboro, Md.), won the 200 Free relay with a 1:43.04 time.

Individually, Fobbs, McMaster and Smith claimed first in their respective events. Fobbs finished first in the women’s 100 Butterfly (1:01.14) while McMaster and Smith took home gold in the 50 Free (25.23) and 100 Free (56.29), respectively.

Junior Abolade Oyetunji (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and newcomer Courtney Connolly (White Lake, Mich.) each won a pair of individual races. Oyetunji earned victories in the women’s 200 Free (2:05.99) and 500 Free (5:46.79) while the Michigan native finished first in the 100 Back (1:01.85) and 200 IM (2:13.70), which ranks No. 5 on the school’s all-time list.

Second-year swimmer Madison Freeland (Glenside, Pa.) continues to leave her mark in the school’s record book, now holding the third-fastest mark in the 1000 Free (11:09.50).

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Marymount University men’s swimming team dove back into competition on Saturday afternoon for the first time in nearly two months, falling to Division I Howard University, 171-33.

The Saints had several top five finishes, led by seniors James Powers and Tedd Pham with third-place finishes and a second-place finish by junior Max Klemm.

Klemm grabbed the best finish of the day in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a time of 1:00.55 for second place, just four seconds off a top finish. Coming in right behind Klemm was Powers, touching the wall for third place in 1:03.18.

Pham earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, coming through for a time of 1:01.27, less than a second off of a silver finish.

The Saints return to the pool next Saturday, January 25, rounding out Atlantic East Conference competition with Immaculata University for Senior Day in the Rose Bente Lee Center. Start time is set for 1 p.m.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Marymount University women’s swimming team fell on Saturday afternoon to Division I Howard University, 167-48, the Saints first competition since November.

The Saints battled in their first competition of 2020 with a handful of top three finishes, led by senior Hayley Elizondo with two top-two times.

Elizondo grabbed a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:15.24, just 1.5 seconds off a top finish. She followed it with an even close race in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall 0.4 seconds behind the top finisher for second place with a time of 1:09.61.

Senior Jessie Bricker also earned a second-place finish, clocking a time of 2:10.81 in the 200-yard freestyle, and followed it with a third place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.36.

Freshman Delaney Carey and senior Isabel Grimm rounded out the top three finishes, as Carey came in just three seconds off of first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.64 for third and Grimm clocked a time of 1:06.97 in the 100-yard backstroke for a third-place finish.

The Saints close out Atlantic East Conference competition on Saturday, January 25, hosting Immaculata University for Senior Day in the Rose Bente Lee Center. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
