Holy Cross Women Down Providence On Senior Day, Friar Men Top Crusaders

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team collected a 178-119 win against nonconference opponent Providence College Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.

The Crusader women improved to 4-2 overall with the victory matching their win total from last season.

In the diving events, senior Abby Bryant recorded a NCAA zone score of 280.43 in the one-meter dive.

Freshman Sabrina Conrad manufactured three first place finishes in the win. Conrad completed the 200-yard butterfly in 2:11.18, the 100-yard butterfly in 59.10 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.98.

Senior Anna Turner had two first place showings in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.27) and in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:51.54).

Junior Greta Walting picked up first place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.90) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.61).
Sophomore Ginger Berry recorded her third first place performance of the weekend in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.24).

The Crusaders will gear up for the Patriot League Championships held from Feb. 15 to Feb. 18 in Lewisburg, Pa.

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team ended their dual meet schedule suffering a 188-106 loss to Providence on Saturday afternoon in the Hart Center Pool.

The victory sends the Crusaders to 2-4 matching their win total from last season.

Freshman Zach Bubonovich picked up a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 58.81 time and the 200-yard breast at 2:10.29.

Sophomore Rory Hess placed first in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:57.48. Newcomer Jack Sorenson earned first during the 200-yard backstroke hitting the wall in 1:55.00.

Freshman Alex Michael had a pair of second place showings in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.59), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.26).

Junior Chris Clow tallied a 174.98 first place score in the three-meter dive.

The Crusaders will train for the Patriot League Championships held from Feb. 15 to Feb. 18 in Lewisburg, Pa.

WORCESTER, MASS. – The Providence College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams competed against Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. on Jan. 21. The men’s team scored a 188-106 victory, while the women fell to the Crusaders, 178-119.

Will Layden highlighted the afternoon on the men’s side as he set a pool record in the 50-yard freestyle with a first-place finish in a time of 21.18. The previous record was set by Al Anderson of Army (21.46) in 1990. Layden also was part of two winning relay teams on the afternoon. Seth Brodnick was a multi-event winner in the 1,000 and 500-yard freestyle races. Alex Beauchene also won two individual events and was part of one winning relay. A list of first-place finishes on the men’s side is below.

On the women’s side, Courtney Reilly had an impressive day in the freestyle events, winning the 100-yard and 200-yard races. She also was part of the winning 400-yard relay team. Taylor Loud and Sally Alrutz also won individual events on the day, and both were part of the 400-yard free relay win.
