REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women’s Water Polo team put together a second half comeback against the University of La Verne Saturday night inside the Thompson Aquatic Center, but it wouldn’t be enough as they would fall 15-9.

The highlight on the evening was senior attacker Holly Kvanvig (Beaverton, OR) who totaled two goals and two assists and has now reached the 100 Career Goal Mark.  She had the first two tallies of the game for the Bulldogs as they trailed 4-2 after the 1st Quarter.  In the 2nd, they were outscored 6-1, which opened the game up for ULV taking a 10-3 lead into the break.  Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) was the lone score for UR finding space inside two-meters.

Out of the break Redlands started to find their offense totaling six goals with three coming in each quarter.  Parker and Katrina Nielsen (Houston, TX) started the 3rd Quarter off with a pair of tallies going back to back to cut the deficit to five.  Sofia Portello (Sonoma, CA) then added her first of the game two and a half minutes later, but the Leopards were still able to put up three themselves as they kept a seven-goal margin.

The Maroon and Grey were able to outscore ULV in the 4th Quarter 3-2.  Parker started the comeback 1:20 into the final period and Alexandra Feeley (Menlo Park, CA) and Courtney Sawin (Tacoma, WA) would end the game with back-to-back strikes that moved the score to 15-9.

Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, CA) played all 32:00 minutes between the pipes and totaled six saves and two steals.

The Bulldogs took 28 shots on the night (.321) and were 3-of-6 on power plays (.500).  Sawin and Nielsen each added a goal and an assist with Nielsen providing a drawn exclusion and a pair of steals.  Kvanvig ended the night with two goals, two assists, a drawn exclusion and two steals and Parker put up a hat trick of three goals and two assists.

Redlands returns to the pool next Wednesday, April 6, when they travel to Orange County to take on Chapman University beginning at 7:00pm.
