Gretchen Walsh on World Cup Competition: “I didn’t really expect to be so nervous”

2025 SWIMMING WORLD CUP – CARMEL

**From Day 1 of the 2025 World Cup #1 in Carmel**

Gretchen Walsh dropped two events, the 50 back and 50 free, in favor of the 100 IM final, where she won handily in a new US Open and World Cup record of 55.91. Walsh, now a pro, is adjusting to her new reality, admitting that she was quite nervous coming into this competition.

U.S. viewers can watch both prelims and finals on the USA Swimming Network and Peacock, Canadians can stream every session on CBC, and the source for the majority of European nations will be the Eurovision Sport platform.

The competition will also be streamed live and on-demand with the World Aquatics Recast channel. A three-day pass requires 590 credits, which costs $8.26 USD.

It looks like Gretchen has the same pre-scratch entries in Westmont as she did in Carmel, so her day 2 and 3 will be the same with the 50/100 fly. She said she would likely race the 50 back at some point, so maybe it will be this week. I wonder if she will now pick between the 50 free and 100IM for prelims rather than racing both on day 1.For the overall title, it will likely be between her and Kate. She didn’t say how important it is for her to maximize earning crowns and the associated money. It seems almost certain she will get two crowns in the 50/100 fly unless she changes her day 3 schedule in… Read more »
