With the 2016 Olympic Games now just 142 days away, interior pictures of the Olympic Village are circulating social media forums. The rooms to be occupied by the more than 3,000 Olympic athletes from around the globe are beginning to be furnished this week, with the final product set to be showcased to the Games Organizing Committee later this month.
Photos, such as those within the tweet below, show single beds with colorful duvets covered with Olympic images, along with sofas, bean bags, coffee tables and wardrobes. As a reminder, after waffling by Rio Organizers on the decision, athletes’ rooms will indeed have air conditioning, but will be without TVs in the interest of budget reduction.

There are 31 buildings in total, which are set to be allocated to the private sector post-Olympics. They’re already being marketed and are estimated to bring in the ballpark of R 3.6 billion in revenue. (O Globo)
Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes visited the Olympic Village this week, in addition to the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, which is the site of the competitive pool events. Earlier this month, we reported how the Brazilian Swimming Federation’s (CBDA) Information Bulletin on the Olympic swimming test event, the Maria Lenk Trophy/Open Championships, had its location listed as ‘to be determined.’
According to Paes, however, based on his recent visit, all venues are slated to be ready for the start of the Games, including the Aquatics Stadium.
