Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Avery Bishop from Buford, Georgia has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Carson-Newman beginning in fall 2026.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Carson-Newman University! First, I want to thank Jesus and my parents for guiding me through this process. Second, I want to thank Coach Karl and the rest of my @spartansaquatics and @skg_swimdive coaches for helping me reach my goals and my teammates for their support. Thank you to Coach Ben and Aaron for giving me this opportunity and believing in me! I am so excited for the next 4 years! @cnswim #talonsup 🧡💙🦅”

Bishop swims for Spartans Aquatic Club out of Norcross, GA. At the beginning of December, she swam to numerous lifetime bests at the Georgia Senior State meet. She was highlighted by lifetime best in the 50 back (26.66), 100 back (59.00), and 200 back (2:10.46). Her best times coming into the season were a 59.85 in the 100 and a 2:13.95 in the 200 back, so she has shown great improvement in her senior year already.

She is currently a senior at Seckinger High School and most recently competed at the GHSA 5A State Championships. She finished 6th in the 100 back in a 59.09, only 0.09 off her lifetime best and also was 10th in the 100 fly in a 1:00.07 (59.59 in prelims).

Bishop’s Best SCY Times Are:

  • 100 back: 59.00
  • 200 back: 2:10.46
  • 100 fly: 59.12
  • 200 free: 1:57.14

The Carson-Newman women finished 3rd out of five teams at the 2026 South Atlantic Conference Championships with 1177 points. Megan Corcoran led the way with wins in the 200 fly (2:01.35), 200 back (1:59.92), 200 IM (2:03.41), and 400 IM (4:26.90). Corcoran will look to final again at Division II NCAAs as she was 8th in the 200 fly and 16th in the 400 IM at the 2025 Division II NCAA Championships.

Based on her best times, Bishop would have made the ‘B’ final in both the 100 and 200 backstrokes, as well as the C final of the 100 fly and 200 free.

Bishop will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Gabi Simon who hails from Chicago, Illinois. Simon primarily specializes in freestyle.
