Abby Grottle, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and NISCA All-American from Milton, Georgia, has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Pittsburgh for 2020-21. She wrote on social media:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at the University of Pittsburgh! I would like to thank my family, coaches and friends who helped me get here! Hail to Pitt!💙💛#H2P”
Grottle is a junior at Cambridge High School in Milton. She won the 6A 500 free (4:53.19) and placed third in the 200 free (1:53.82) as a sophomore at the 2018 GHSA 6-7A State Swimming & Diving Meet. This season, she was runner-up in the 200 (1:51.37) and swam the 500 in prelims (4:59.27) at the 2019 state meet in February.
Grottle does her year-round swimming with SwimAtlanta. She is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 200/800/1500m free and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 400m free and 200m fly. She has also qualified for Winter Juniors in the 200y fly. Many of her best times come from her sophomore year of high school but she earned PBs in the 1650 free (16:52.35) and 400 IM (4:27.00) at 2018 Winter Juniors East and in the 200 free (1:51.37) at the Georgia High School State Meet earlier this month.
Grottle’s times would have ranked among the top 3 for Pitt this season in the 1650 free, 1000 free and 200 fly, and in the top 6 of the 500 free and 200 free.
