The Fresno State swim team returned home to defeat Cal State East Bay144-117 on Saturday afternoon in the Aquatics Center. The Bulldogs improve to 4-2 on the season and 3-2 at home.

“I was really happy with the way we performed today, said head coach Jeanne Fleck. “I thought our butterflyers made great adjustments. Our individual ‘stroke’ swimmers were right on in their races today and that gave us a huge advantage.”

The Bulldogs started strong taking first place and second place in the first event of the meet, the 400 Medley Relay.

Sophomore Ugne Mazutaityte swam the 1000 Freestyle for this first time this season and logged a first place finish with a time of 10:12.39. Mazutaityte’s time was the fastest time in that event by a Bulldog this season. Junior Casey Kennemann finished right behind her in second place with a time of 10:49.18.

“Ugne had a fabulous meet today,” said Fleck. “Her time in the 1000 Freestyle is the best we’ve had and to come back from a distance freestyle and take first in the 200 Backstroke was huge for us. She had great swims today, I was impressed.”

Ugne Mazutaityte posted a first place finished in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:00.08.

In the 100 Backstroke, senior Kali Conlon stepped for the Bulldogs and took first place (59.87).

Freshman Manuela Mendolicchio led the Bulldogs in the 100 Breaststroke with a first place finish (1:05.42), remaining perfect in the event this season in dual meets. Senior Hailee Baldwin finished close behind in third place with a time of 1:08.00.

As for the 200 Butterfly, sophomore Gabbie Libang gave Fresno State a first place finish with a time of 2:07.71. Senior Esme Gullick took second place with a time of 2:08.12.

Manuela Mendolicchio remained perfect in breaststroke events with a first place finish in the 200 Breaststroke (2:19.64).

Freshman Kimberly Harbert tied for first place in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 57.80.

Sophomore Hunter Winslow (5:13.43) and Freshman Emily Niles (5:14.85) posted the top times in the 500 Freestyle for first and second place finished for the Bulldogs.

In the 100 IM, Esme Gullick took first place with a time of 1:00.54.

In the last event of the meet, 200 Freestyle Relay, Katelin Britton, Tarryn Rennie, Hannah Jarvis and Kimberly Harbert finished in second place with a time of 1:38.42.

The Bulldogs will be back in Fresno State’s Aquatics Center Saturday Jan. 28 at 12 p.m. PT to take on conference foe San Jose State. Fresno State will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday Jan. 29 at 12 p.m. PT against UC Davis.
