Freestyle & Butterfly Specialist Will Redetzke Commits To Wisconsin-Green Bay For Fall 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Will Redetzke of Northfield, Minnesota, has committed to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. He trains year-round with the South Metro Storm and attends Northfield High School.

Redetzke, a freestyle and butterfly specialist, confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam and provided the following quote:

I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to pursue my academic and athletic career at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. I’d like to thank Coach Lewis and Coach Morgan for this opportunity, as well as my parents and coaches who have supported me throughout this journey. Go Phoenix!

The future Phoenix’s two biggest meets of this past high school season were the MSHSL Section 1A Championships in late February and the Class A State Championships in early March. At the Section meet, he swept all four of his events: the 200 and 500 free along with the 200 and 400 free relays. He touched the wall in 1:45.60 and 4:52.50 to take his individual events, then split 21.44 and 47.48 while anchoring the relays.

At State, he held the top seed in the 500 free, where he walked away with the title in a massive best time of 4:37.09—his first time breaking the 4:40 barrier. He was seeded third in the 200 free, where he notched 1:41.72, his first time getting under the 1:43 barrier. He anchored the winning 200 free relay in 20.88, then led off the golden 400 free relay in 46.56 to wrap up his high school season.

Redetzke wrapped up his season with his club team at the Minnesota Senior Short Course Championships exactly a week later. His highest finishes came in the 100 free (46.05) and 200 fly (1:53.04), where he clocked best times en route to securing fourth. He also added an 11th-place showing in the 200 free at 1:43.78 and a personal best of 51.82 for 18th in the 100 fly.

Alex Lewis took the helm of the UWGB program in November 2021. He was able to hire a full-time assistant coach and a graduate assistant last season; in the first three years of his tenure as head coach, it was just him and a diving coach.

The UWGB men took sixth out of seven teams at last year’s Horizon League Championships. A year prior, they finished last in the conference.

The conference meet scores ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals, and Redetzke’s best time in the 200 fly would have put him into the ‘B’ final last season. It took 1:55.46 to make it into that final, while 1:49.56 was need to make the championship heat. Outside of that event, it took times of 20.56, 45.17, 1:40.59, 4:35.47, and 49.15 to advance in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 100 fly, respectively.

Junior Max Kasal led the Phoenix in the 50 free (19.92), 100 free (43.78), 200 free (1:36.64), and 100 fly (49.08), while freshman Owen Kearns (4:46.41) and junior Kaleb Lombard (1:52.91) posted the team’s fastest times in the 500 free and 200 fly.

Redetzke joins Owen Beaudette and Grady Evenson in UWGB’s 2030 recruiting class.

The swimmers will arrive on a campus that has recently made several upgrades to its aquatic center, including a new $65,000 video board. The facelift at the pool comes amid other positive momentum for the NCAA Division I program, which included the reinstatement of athletic scholarships for the 2024-2025 season, four years after they were eliminated in a budget measure.
