Fran Halsall‘s 50m Freestyle is the British National Championships’ Most Dominant Swim.

The British National Championships (April 12-17th) featured the fastest Olympic Qualifying Times of any country yet. In some events, Great Britain may have left behind swimmers who would have made the Olympic team for any other country in the world, including the USA. While the standards were a heavy focus for competitors, at the end of the day a race is a race, and the Great Britain swimmers performed to win and beyond that, they came to Dominate.

Congratulations to Fran Halsall for swimming the British National Championships’ Most Dominant Swim in the women’s 50 free.

Even though Halsall’s final time of 24.48 was a half second slower than her British record, it still bested her competition by a 3.72% dominance margin. That level of dominance is usually associated with longer races. For Halsall, a 50 was all she needed to set herself apart as the dominator.

Some other dominant swims at British National Championships:

  • Ben Proud (50 free) and Jazz Carlin (400 free) also won their respective events with a dominance margin over 2.00%.
  • Racing against Great Britain’s wicked-fast qualifying times, Adam Peaty dominated his event’s OQT over twice as much as any swimmer. His 58.41 in the 100 breast was almost a full second faster than the OQT.
  • Dominating her own personal record by the most was Chloe Tutton, who dominated her seed time in the 200 breast by 3 seconds, and knocked 1.04% off the British record in that event.
  • Close behind Tutton for the swimmer to most dominate their personal best and earn a Rio slot was Tim Shuttleworth. He knocked 20 seconds off his PR in the 1500 Free to earn a ticket to Rio.
