MIAMI (Oct. 17, 2022) – Swimming and Diving has bolstered its roster with the signing of Oumy Diop, announced Head Coach Randy Horner.
The Senegalese international will join the Panthers in 2023 as FIU looks to win its first American Athletic Conference Championship.
“Oumy is the type of athlete that defines our program,” said coach Horner. “She is an elite swimmer with international experience that we look forward to helping achieve great things at FIU and on the world stage.”
Diop has had great success on the international level. She is a five-time medalist in the African Championships, winning one gold, one silver and three bronze medals. She has also earned a spot in the 2022 FINA Short Course World Championships scheduled this December.
Diop is joining a strong crop of signees that will be joining the Panthers next year as well.
Ingrid Huszar, a breaststroke specialist, and Var Erlingsdottir Eidesgaard, a freestyle specialist, signed earlier in the year and will be great reinforcements come the second half of the season.
“These three ladies will make an immediate impact,” added coach Horner. We look forward to getting them on campus and welcoming them to our FIU family.”

UP NEXT
Swim and Dive will be back in the pool October 28 and 29 when they host Liberty University in a dual meet. Day one of competition will start at 5 p.m. ET and day two will start at 10 a.m. ET, all at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
