With less than two months for the start of the Olympic Games in Tokyo (JPN), some of the best athletes in the world will gather in Barcelona (ESP) from June 10-13 to take part in the FINA Artistic Swimming Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament (ASOGQT). The event will select the last three Teams (from a total of 10) and eight Duets (out of 22) that will compete in the Japanese capital.
Before the Catalonian rendezvous, seven Teams already ensured their presence in the Games: the host Japan, but also Egypt, Canada, Australia, China, Ukraine and ROC*. The fight for the last three “tickets” for the Olympic celebration will be contested between seven nations: Hungary, Republic of Korea, France, United States, Italy, Spain and Greece.
In the Duet competition, 11 National delegations have qualified so far for Tokyo: Egypt, Canada, Japan, ROC*, Australia, China, Ukraine, South Africa, Mexico, Kazakhstan and Spain. After the Team competition in Barcelona, the three qualified countries will also enter their duet for the Olympics. Moreover, eight pairs will be specifically selected from the Duet competition, totalling the final 22 nations swimming at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. For the eight available spots at stake, 26 duets have entered the competition in Barcelona.
The programme of the ASOGQT unfolds as follows:
