FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept dual meets against the College of the Holy Cross this afternoon with the men winning their match up by a 206.5-87.5 score and the women taking their meet by a 169-131 count. With the victories, both teams improved to 3-0 in dual meet competition which all came after both teams collected first place in the Fairfield Invitational to start the season.
The men’s team swept the top three finishes in three events and added four more first-second placements in an additional four events. The women’s team secured three one-two finishes in three events while the Stags swept the 400 medley relays with first and second place swims.
Oliver McLaughlin (53.97), Patrick Gill (59.66), and Will Robinson (1:01.46) took the top three spots in the 100 back as did Alexey Belfer (52.84), Evan Fair (53.92), and Peter Gori (54.05) in the 100 free. The third sweep came in the 200 IM with Ed Hunt (2:07.42), Hans Lim (2:09.87), and Ryan Schuller (2:12.30) accomplishing the task.
The team also tallied points in the first two slots for the 200 free and the 400 free with Joseph Stewart (1:53.20/4:07.36) and Tim Regan (1:53.69/4:10.56) representing the Stags. Sam Tonole (277.05/231.30 points) and Noah Duncan (223.58/225.89 points) had the same results in the 1 meter and 3 meter dives respectively.
On the women’s side, Cathy Stockwell (2:43.22) and Alison Sposili (2:43.94) started the sweeps for Fairfield, taking the top two spots in the 200 breaststroke. Sydney Scalise (4:35.85) and Lily Barker (4:37.97) were successful in the 400 free as were Erini Pappas (2:23.18) and Sposili (2:28.65) in the 200 IM.
Fairfield opened the dual meet by touching the wall in first and second for the 400 medley relay as the women’s times stood at 4:25.24 and 4:26.64 while the men’s times were 3:52.78 and 3:53.84.
The Stags had several additional winners during the course of the meet. Joey Nizzardo secured the 800 free win with his time of 8:31.17 while Olivia Thompson touched the wall first in the 50 free (27.37). Belfer earned another victory with his performance in the 50 free (23.47) as did Hunt in the 200 back (2:09.23). Maggie O’Donnell garnered the top spot in the 100 fly by swimming the course in 1:07.81 and Alexis Gaulin securing first place in both the 1-meter (225.07) and 3-meter dives (229.58).
Fairfield will look to continue its winning streak on November 5 when the Stags will travel to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Marist College for a dual meet. The meet is scheduled for 1 pm on the Red Foxes’ main campus.

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team lost a close competition to Fairfield, 169-131 Saturday in nonconference action.
Fresh off being named the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week, junior Greta Walting picked up where she left off finishing first in the 100-meter breaststroke at 1:14.07. Walting also placed third in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:45.04).
Junior Ayden Chanin came in first in the 100-meter freestyle at 59.75 and manufactured second place 200-meter freestyle (2:09.56). Freshman Ainsley Nalen had first (2:19.11) and second place (1:06.11) finishes in the 200 and 100-meter backstroke.
Senior Anna Turner touched the wall first in the 800-meter free at 9:26.82 while sophomore Ava Westfall was first in the 200-meter butterfly (2:30.82).
In the diving events, junior Katelyn Cerulli totaled a 204.00 score in the three-meter dive good enough for second place while sophomore Adelle Feeley was second in the one-meter dive (219.22).
Holy Cross will be back in action in two weeks when they travel to Maine for a head-to-head meet.
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving program was beaten 206.5-87.5 by nonconference opponent Fairfield Saturday.
The loss sends Holy Cross to 1-1 while the Stags improve to 3-0 in head-to-head competition this year.
Freshman Zach Bubonovich took home first place in the 100-meter breast at 1:04.46. He also was first in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:22.79). Sophomore Rory Hess collected first in the 100-meter butterfly (58.19).
Sophomore Luca Moscetti earned four points to the Crusader total by finishing in second place (8:55.77) in the 800-meter free style. Hess also finished in second in the 200-meter butterfly (2:09.51) while sophomore Patrick Walsh was second in the 200-meter backstroke (2:10.96).
Walsh tied for third with Fairfield in the 100-meter backstroke as both athletes recorded 1:01.46 times.
Holy Cross will be back in action in two weeks when they travel to Maine for a head-to-head meet.
