Elizabeth Beisel, Cecil Gordon Re-Elected to USAS Foundation Board

Cecil Gord0n and Elizabeth Beisel will continue on in their roles as members of the USA Swimming Foundation Board of Directors for anotherr 2 years, and they will be joined by David Shackley, whose term will commence immediately and continue until December 31, 2020.

The moves were voted upon at the February 2nd USA Swimming Board of Directors meeting. The USA Swimming Foundation is the organization’s charitable arm that focuses on drowning prevention via awareness campaigns and providing free and reduced-price swim lessons. It also raises money for National Team and Sport Development grants.

Beisel is a two-time Olympic medalist (one silver and one bronze), and the 2011 World Champion in the 400 IM. She joined the Board of Directors in 2016. Gordon, a long-time, high-level USA Swimming on-deck official and chairman of a number of USA Swimming committees (including a current 4-year tenure on the Board of Directors). He too joined the Foundation’s Board of Directors in 2016 as its first-ever black member.

At the meeting, Debbie Hesse also announced that Cecil Gordon is the new chair of the Board of Directors.

The USA Swimming Foundation announced last week that they had awarded $507,461 to local partners in their first round of 2019 funding. The foundation no longer receives financial support from USA Swimming, and is projecting a break-even budget for 2019.
