Dynamo’s James McGuire Verbally Commits to Miami RedHawks

James McGuire, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Atlanta, Georgia, has verbally committed to swim at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio for 2017-18. McGuire will join verbal commits Blake Brockman and Noah Barr in the RedHawks’ class of 2021.

“Miami University has everything I am looking for both academically and athletically! The team and campus atmosphere made me feel at home during my visit and I can’t wait to start working with Coach Bonewit-Cron next fall! Go RedHawks!”

McGuire is a senior at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School in Atlanta. He was the sixth-place finisher in the 100 breast at the 2016 GHSA 1-5A State Swimming & Diving Meet. He also won the consolation of the 200 IM and anchored both freestyle relays for Mount Vernon. McGuire swims year-round for Dynamo Swim Club and has achieved Winter Juniors cuts in the 100 breast and 200/400 IM. At the Greensboro Sectionals this summer he competed in the 100/200/400/1500m free, 200m fly, and 200m IM, picking up best times in everything but the 100 free. He then went on to score PBs in the 200m breast and 400m IM at Atlanta Futures. His best SCY times are:

  • 100 breast – 58.59
  • 200 breast – 2:07.35

  • 400 IM – 4:05.20
