Denver tabs alum Mark Maguire as new assistant coach

The Denver Pioneers have hired on former swimmer Mark Maguire as their new assistant coach, the school announced this week.

Maguire was a captain and a four-year letterwinner with the Pioneers from 2009 to 2013. He  stayed on with the school’s companion club, the Denver Hilltoppers, as an assistant coach.

Denver announced the hiring of Maguire in a press release earlier this week as the college team’s new assistant under head coach Brian Schrader.

“Mark brings a really great knowledge and passion with his coaching presence, and we are excited to have him start with our team this fall,” Schrader said in the school’s press release. “As a former athlete within our program, he was a role model and leader, and I know he will continue that road as a coach.”

Maguire moves up from leading the age group club to taking on a role with the college team he flourished on in the early 2010s.

“I’m very excited to be part of the coaching staff for the DU swimming and diving program that has, for the past several years, been continually building on previous years’ success,” he said. “Under Brian, Alicia and Channing, DU is annually sending individuals and relays to the NCAA Championships as well as having representatives on the international stage. I can’t thank them enough for allowing me the opportunity to learn from them and grow as a coach.”

Denver is coming off of repeat Summit League titles on both the men’s and women’s sides.
