Video captured by Anya Pelshaw.

After the race, he gave a big update on what training at Cal Berkeley has been like and what his goals are for 2026. Never a shy competitor, Wiffen stated that he is shooting for a ‘Grand Slam’ this year, trying to tally wins at the Commonwealth Games, European Championships, and Short Course World Championships.

It’s easy to have prejudice due to his previous records of setting unrealistic goals, but winning CG, Euros and SC Worlds is actually a pretty realistic one for him.

So his biggest challenges are:

-Sam Short at CGs
-Sven Schwarz at Euros
-Sarkany at SC Worlds? Florida swimmers usually don’t go.

I’d say he’s the favorite in all of those swims if he’s back on his prior trajectory. But the two LC meets are not slam dunks.

When you’re an Olympic champion and world record holder, you’ve pretty much earned the right to say whatever tf you want, aim ridiculously high, talk crazy and troll everyone. He revels in all of it and you really can’t be mad at him.🤷🏻‍♂️

Would it really be a grand slam ? He isn’t the 800m LCM WC any more since he didn’t win in Singapore

It’s not a calendar slam, but if he’s won it all at some point I guess it counts as “completing the grand slam”

Honestly quite doable if those three meets complete his Grand Slam
