Colin McNew to Join Brother Chris in NCAA D2 with Commitment to Rollins

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Colin McNew from Springfield, Missouri has committed to swim at Rollins College beginning in the fall of 2021. He will join older brother Chris McNew, currently a junior at Drury, in the NCAA Division II next year.

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida! Thank you to the great coaches, my parents, and all of those who have encouraged and supported me to get this far! Looking forward to swimming with Coach Lehner and with my new teammates! Go Tars! @springfieldaquatics @ghsfalconflock @rollinsswim #committedSW”

McNew is a senior at Glendale High School where he contributed to the 2020 MSHSAA Boys Class 1 State Championships team title with a pair of relay wins and two individual A-finals. He swam a leg (21.60) on the Class 1 record-breaking 200 free relay, led off (48.32) the state-champion 400 free relay, placed 4th in the 200 free (1:43.55), and came in 5th in the 500 free (4:48.47).

In club swimming, where he represents Springfield Aquatics, McNew has updated many of his SCY and LCM personal bests since fall 2020. He recently competed at Jenks Sectionals, finaling in the 100 free (24th) and 200 free (20th) and leaving the meet with new PBs in the 100m free (54.53), 200m free (1:59.97), 400m free (4:24.52), and 100m breast (1:10.73). In February at the Aquahawgs’ Winter Long Course Invite, he improved his lifetime best in the 50m free (26.20).

McNew has improved his SCY times, as well. He went a best time in the 200 free at high school States in November, which he followed with PBs in the 50 free and 100 free at 18&U Winter Championships a month later. In January he added the 100 breast and 200 IM to his list of improvements, while competing at CSC Tiger Invitational.

  • 50 free – 22.38
  • 100 free – 48.14
  • 200 free – 1:43.55
  • 500 free – 4:46.66
  • 100 breast – 1:02.65
  • 200 IM – 2:04.99

The Winter Park, Florida-based Rollins Tars compete in the Sunshine State Conference. The SSC Presidents Council canceled conference competition and championships for swimming during the 2020-21 academic year but allowed for individual schools to practice and compete “as a matter of institutional discretion.” Rollins did not compete this past year, but in 2020, the Tars finished 5th of 7 teams in the men’s meet.
