High school senior Coby Ockert has committed to Towson University, where he will begin his career in the fall of 2020. Ockert attends Panther Creek High School in Cary, North Carolina and trains with the Raleigh Swimming Association.

Ockert is primarily a sprint freestyler who, since his announcement in November, has been another best time in the 100 yard free already this season at a non-championship meet.
Ockert, whose given name is Jacob, is the 6th seed in the 100 free at this weekend’s North Carolina 4A High School State Championship meet. He’ll likely swim all 3 Panther Creek relays as well after he missed qualification for the state meet in the 200 free (he was 8 seconds slower than his best time at Regionals).

- 100 free – 46.68
- 200 free – 1:43.06
At the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Championships, the Towson men finished in 4th place out of 5 teams. While Ockert’s best times would have just-missed scoring at that meet individually, he’s not far from a spot on Towson’s “A” 400 free relay – their slowest split at last year’s conference meet was a 45.76 on a rolling start.
Ockert was also selected as a 2019 USA Swimming Athlete Fellow. The 13-month leadership development program teaches leadership skills and allows USA Swimming athlete members from across the country to become more involved in the Safe Sport, Diversity & Inclusion, and Clean Sport movements. Fellows also act as liaisons between USA Swimming’s national headquarters and local swim clubs. Ockert was chosen as one of 4 Safe Sport fellows from across the country.
Other announced recruits in Towson’s class of 2020 include Reed Sells, TJ Bearor, and Norwegian Brian Benzing.
