The 13-14 boys of the Cincinnati Marlins swim team, swimming at the Ohio Short Course Junior Olympic meet on Friday, did a number on a National Age Group Record.
I’m not sure there exists within swimming an adjective that is superlative enough to describe how badly the group beat the record.
Those boys swam a 6:55.96, which broke the old National Age Group Record of 7:03.50, by over seven-and-a-half seconds.
The team of Christian Imbus, Nicholas Perera, Justin Grender, and Joshua McDonald combined for the record-breaking swim, which also took down the old Ohio record by by over 13 seconds.
The splits:
- Imbus – 1:45.02
- Perera – 1:43.56
- Grender – 1:45,53
- McDonald – 1:41.85
That’s a very, very impressive set of splits for 14-year olds. The runners-up from the Dayton Raiders swam a 7:01.80 – which itself broke the National Age Group Record by over a second, and they weren’t even in the frame when the Marlins finished.
The old record was set last year by a Nova of Virginia team that was made up of David Dixon, Campbell Nystrom, Matthew Whelan, and Jacob Johnson.

Grant house let the Marlins to swim with his uncle at countryside Y. Great addition to countryside and I’m sure he’ll do great things there. But one swimmer does not a team make. I think these boys just proved it. Go Marlins! Go team!

You’re correct about Marlins coming back on the boys side big time, but Grant House left them last fall and is now at Countryside YMCA, a big loss for their program a great addition to the YMCA ranks has a chance to be as good as Staab and Hudepohl!
Amazing relay swim, but there’s an error with those splits, they add up to a 6:52+.

They have a great 15-year-old 200 freestyle talent with Grant House.
