Cincinnati Adds Zach Hils, Devin Javens As Assistants For Upcoming Season

Cincinnati head coach Joey Ferreri has added two more assistant coaches to his staff. Zach Hils and Devin Javens will join the program as assistant coaches for the upcoming season.

Javens arrives after most recently spending time as an assistant coach at Bucknell University. While at Bucknell, Javens primarily worked with the IM and breaststroke groups. In addition to coaching, she also collaborated with the athletic training staff to identify common swimming injury patterns and analyze areas for growth within the lift and in-water programming.

Prior to her time at Bucknell, Javens spent three seasons at Division III Smith College. She begin at Smith in 2022 as a graduate assistant before she was named interim co-head coach in February 2023. In May 2023 she was named full time head coach. The team earned their highest point total in eight years at the 2025 NEWMAC Championships.

Javens spent her collegiate career at Division III powerhouse Denison and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies and English Literature at Denison University in 2022.

Hils arrives after most recently spending time as an assistant coach at Division II Transylvania University. There he worked with student-athletes on technique development, training, and race preparation.

Hils spent his collegiate career at Georgia and graduated in 2024. He was a nine-time All-American with the Bulldogs and most notably helped Georgia to a 2nd place finish in the 800 free relay at the 2022 NCAA Championships.

Cincinnati enters its first season under Ferreri as head coach this upcoming season. Ferreri was elevated to head coach at the end of April after former head coach Mandy Commons-DiSalle announced her retirement in March. The coaching staff also includes Scott Stern, who was elevated from assistant to associate head coach, and Masy Folcik as an assistant.

The Cincinnati women finished 4th out of 10 teams at the 2026 Big 12 Championships while the men’s team finished 6th out of seven programs. The women were led by senior Joleigh Crye who swam to a conference title in the 100 breast with a 58.02. Crye also defended her title in the process as she won the event in 2025. Her Big 12 win in 2025 marked Cincinnati’s first ever swimmer to win a Big 12 title. Crye made the NCAA Championships in all four seasons with the Bearcats.
