Christopher Huott Added to USA Swimming’s Banned for Life List

USA Swimming has added a second coach to its public list of individuals permanently suspended or ineligible this week. Christopher Huott was added after his official appeal period ended, with an official ban date of June 17th, 2014.

Huott, the former head coach, owner, and founder of the Maryland Suburban Swim Club was arrested in April after a former student accused him of engaging her in “sex acts” when she was a child.

At the time, he was charged with five counts.

On April 26th, 2014, shortly after his arrest, Huott relinquished any ownership interest in the Maryland Suburban Swim Club, according to a statement released by the club, and the club continues to operate.

Huott was banned under several sections of the USA Swimming Code of Conduct. That includes those dating back to the 1980’s, where the alleged abuses were to have happened:

304.3.6 (2011-) Conviction of, imposition of a deferred sentence for, or any plea of guilty or no contest at any time, past or present, or the existence of any pending charges, for (i) any felony, (ii) any offense involving use, possession, distribution or intent to distribute illegal drugs or substances

304.3.8 A. (2014) Any inappropriate sexual conduct or advance, or other inappropriate oral, written, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature at any time, past or present, directed towards an athlete or any person under the age of eighteen (18) by (i) a coach member or other non-athlete member, or (ii) any other adult participating in any capacity whatsoever in the activities of USA Swimming (whether such adult is a member or not). 

304.3.19 (2014-) Any other material and intentional act, conduct or omission not provided for above, which is detrimental to the image or reputation of USA Swimming, a LSC or the sport of swimming.

450.1 GENERAL (1981-1984) –  As herein set forth, the Corporation may censure, suspend for a definite or indefinite period of time with or without terms of probation, or expel any member of the Corporation, including any athlete, coach, manager, official, member of any committee, or any person participating in any capacity whatsoever in the affairs of the Corporation, who has violated any of its rules or regulations, or who has acted in a manner which brings disrepute upon the Corporation or upon the sport of swimming.  The Corporation may also conduct hearings on any matter affecting the Corporation as the national governing body for swimming. 

450.1 GENERAL (1985) – As herein set forth, the Corporation may censure, suspend for a definite or indefinite period of time with or without terms of probation, or expel any member of the Corporation, including any athlete, coach, manager, official, member of any committee, or any person participating in any capacity whatsoever in the affairs of the Corporation, who has violated any of its rules or regulations, or who aids, abets, and encourages another to violate any of its rules or regulations, or who has acted in a manner which brings disrepute upon the Corporation or upon the sport of swimming.
