Chinook Aquatic Club’s Sarah Shiers Announces Commitment to North Florida

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Bellevue, Washington’s Sarah Shiers has committed to the University of North Florida for the 2020-21 school year and beyond. A senior at Interlake High School, she swims year-round for Chinook Aquatic Club and specializes in sprint free and fly. She will join Taylor Warren in the class of 2024.

“I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career swimming at the University of North Florida! Tremendous thanks to my family, friends, and coaches for supporting me in all that I do! Cant wait to be an Osprey!!!🐦💙#SWOOPlife”

Shiers swam the 50 free and 100 fly at the Washington High School 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships last November. She placed 13th in the 50 free (25.12) and 15th in the 100 fly (59.69), swam butterfly (25.80) on the 9th-place 200 medley relay, and led off (25.31) the 9th-place 200 free relay.

In club swimming, Shiers competed at the Pacific Northwest Senior Short Course Championships in December in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 100 fly and earned lifetime bests in the 100 free (leading off the Chinook 400 free relay) and the 100 fly.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free – 24.71
  • 100 free – 53.87
  • 100 fly – 59.05

UNF came in 5th in the team standings at the 2020 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championships. Shiers is not far out of scoring range at the conference level. It took 24.21/52.73 in the freestyle and 58.20 in the 100 fly to get a second swim at this year’s championship meet. Shiers will join a freestyle training group with junior Camryn Greenleaf, sophomores Makenzie Blaakman and Esther Quackenbush, and freshmen Ashley Cozad and Mary-Kate Wichalonis. Quackenbush, junior Sydney Groth, and freshman Ashley Cozad all scored for the Ospreys in the butterfly.
