MISHAWAKA, Ind. — Chadd Maurer will succeed Deb Thompson as the Head Coach of Bethel University’s Swim & Dive Program. Maurer will coach both the Men’s and Women’s Teams, and will serve as the program’s second coach since its 2019 inception.

Maurer most recently served as an Assistant Coach for Concordia University Irvine, coaching the Golden Eagles from 2022-2025. While there, he spearheaded recruiting efforts as an Associate Recruiting Coordinator, and coached six NCAA Division II National Championship Qualifiers.

Additionally, Maurer brings a wealth of club coaching experience via the Golden West Swim Club. Serving as a Group Assistant Coach from 2014-2025, Maurer assisted in the development of athletes who reached Olympic Trials.

As a student-athlete, Maurer competed at Simpson University from 2019-2022, leading all three years as a captain. Additionally, he was named a two-time NAIA All-American. Prior to Simpson, Maurer competed at Golden West College from 2016-2017, and holds the program record there for the 200 Free.

Maurer shared, “I believe in teaching the student-athletes life lessons about hard work, dedication, and dealing honorably with success and failure, because you will probably experience both at some point in time.” He continued, “I am looking forward to continuing the legacy that Coach Deb has started at Bethel University: helping to guide student-athletes spiritually (wherever they are in their faith), and challenging them physically…”

Deb Thompson truly set a strong foundation for the program’s future, with the Lady Pilots’ first place finish at the 2025 KCAC Championship, and NAIA All-American Honors awarded to Vincenzo Di PaloOwen Fleck, and Nick Bohm. While Thompson facilitated Bethel University’s hosting of the 2025 NAIA National Swim & Dive Championship, Maurer will lead this effort in the Spring of 2026.

With Christ at the Helm, Maurer on the deck, and the 2026 NAIA National Swim & Dive Championship on the horizon, the future is bright for Bethel Swim & Dive.
