Compared to Kalisz, Foster was faster today on the fly, back, and free legs of the race. Kalisz was faster on the breaststroke leg in 2022. Foster was less than half a second off his lifetime best in the 400 IM, with the biggest difference coming on the backstroke leg where he was slower today than three years ago.

Foster notably did not compete in the 400 IM this past summer at the 2025 World Championships as he scratched the event due to an ankle injury that he suffered before finals of the 200 IM. He was the #3 seed heading into the 400 IM at 2025 Worlds and his time from today would have won silver.

Such a crazy turn around for this UT program. Carson was on a team that wasn’t preforming to standards and stuck it out. Happy to see he’s doing well leading into 28’

Should say third fastest. At the time of writing, this article claims it is his second fastest performance.

He went the same time (4:06.56, not 4:06.52 as this article also mistakenly states) twice at both the 2022 and 2023 World Championships.
