Canada’s Amber Lefler Verbally Commits to Oakland University

Amber Lefler of the Windsor Essex Swim team in Ontario, Canada, has committed to swim for the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland University.

“I picked OU because after taking my official visit I just really felt it was the University and Swim team where I belong,” Lefler said of her future school. “The coaching staff made feel welcome and like part of the OU swim family. From the campus to the swimming pool and my future team I believe that I will succeed in the classroom and the pool. I’m looking forward to my future accomplishments with the Grizzlies.”

Lefler’s best SCY times include:

50 Freestyle – 23.52
100 Freestyle – 51.43
200 Freestyle – 1:53.19
100 Breaststroke – 1:04.40
200 IM – 2:06.51

With times like these, Lefler has the potential to be a top performer for Oakland as soon as her first year on campus. Only two returning Golden Grizzlies (junior Allison Bellford and senior Kyra Rietveld) have been faster than Lefler’s best time in the 50 Freestyle, and Rietveld will be graduating before Lefler starts swimming on the team. The same is true for the 100 Freestyle: out of the returning roster, only Oakland junior Nikki Flynn has been faster than Lefler’s best time. Lefler will be able to immediately contribute points for her team and compete for relay spots.
