Camille Spink and Sean Green were both double event winners on Day 3 of the 2022 NCAP Invitational.

Spink, who’s committed to join the University of Tennessee in the fall of 2023, won both the 50 free and 100 backstroke. She earned her 50 freestyle victory in 22.45, .31 seconds ahead of Long Island Aquatic Club’s Tess Howley. Spink’s lifetime best sits at 22.16 from when she led of the 200 freestyle relay at this meet last year.

In the 100 back, Spink once again claimed the win ahead of Howley. It was another close race, as Spink touched first in 53.49 with Howley following in 53.84. The 17-year-old Howley led at the halfway point, flipping in 25.97. Spink came back on her during the second 50, splitting 27.50 to power past for the win. Like the 50 freestyle, she was slightly off her lifetime best, which is a 52.76.

Green made headlines on the first day of the meet as he became the youngest swimmer in decades to swim a sub-15 minute mile. On Day 3, he added two victories with wins in the 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle. He won the 200 fly, his first event of the day, by over two seconds, touching in 1:47.83 ahead of Jacob Johnson‘s 1:49.98. That time was just .05 seconds slower than the 1:47.78 he swam in prelims to claim the top seed heading into finals. His prelims time was a lifetime best by over 4 seconds, as he came into the meet with a time of 1:52.10.

Towards the end of the session, Green was back on the blocks for the 500 freestyle. He won that event by an even wider margin that his 200 fly, clocking 4:23.28 to finish over ten seconds ahead of second place Jake Lowrey. For this swim though, he was able to drop from his prelims time, posting another lifetime best by .26 seconds.

One of the other exciting events of the day was the boys’ 200 breaststroke, where NCAP’s Lleyton Arnold broke the 2-minute barrier for the first time. The 16-year-old clocked 1:59.98 to dip under the mark. He came into the meet with a 2:02.60 best time, meaning that he cut over two and a half seconds off his best at this meet.

The 16-year-old raced at the 2022 U.S. Open Championships last weekend, where he swam lifetime bests in the 100-meter breast (1:04.24) and 200-meter breast (2:20.98).

On Thursday, LIAC’s Samantha Anderson dropped 16 seconds from her 1650 freestyle best, and she followed that up here with a lifetime best and a win in the girls’ 13-14 200 butterfly. She swam 2:03.05, marking a lifetime best by 1.85 seconds. LIAC had a strong showing in the girls’ 13-14, in addition to Anderson’s win Cara McDonald was second (2:06.90), while Natalie Wu (2:07.61) and Ellie Franks (2:09.70) finished fourth and fifth.

The team also grabbed a win in the boys’ 13-14 200 fly, thanks to 13-year-old Ryan Baldwin. He dropped 3.69 seconds on the day, getting his hands on the wall for the win in 1:52.13.
