In an uncommon sight in the sport of swimming, the men’s California Community College Swimming and Diving Championships ended in a tie, as both Sierra and Mt. San Antonio each ended the meet with 421 points.
This finish marks the first time in CCCAA history that the men’s Swimming and Diving Championships ended in a tie.
Throughout the meet, the men’s team standings, with American River holding the top spot through the first two days of competition, while Sierra consistently stayed within striking distance. Mt. San Antonio came into the final day of competition in 4th, having held that spot through two days of action.
The women of Long Beach City comfortably claimed the women’s team win, finishing over 90 points ahead of Santa Barbara City College with 500.5 points.
Though American River held a slight lead through two days, it was the depth of both Sierra and Mt. SAC that carried them over the hump, with each claiming the team titles.
Sierra was led by the performances from both Logan Irvine and Akim Kirilyuk. Irvine finished the meet with a win as a member of the winning 400 free relay that helped them seal the deal and earn a share of the men’s team title. He also finished 2nd individually in the 100 back (50.03) and split a key 21.02 on the 200 free relay for another silver.
Kirilyuk anchored that 400 free relay in 44.93, and added a 1:39.21 800 free relay anchor to add another silver to Sierra’s tally. Individually, he finished 3rd in the 100 free (45.60), 4th in the 200 free (1:40.02), and 6th in the 200 IM (1:54.17).
Mt. SAC’s Lincoln Jones did a little bit of everything for his team, winning the 200 back (1:46.65), finishing 2nd in the 400 IM (3:53.82), and taking 3rd in the 200 IM (1:49.59).
The depth that Mt. SAC showed on the final day was a major factor, as on day 3, they had three swimmers finish in the top three in events, including a win by Jones. They also had another five swimmers in the top eight of their final-day events, and a 7th-place 400 free relay.
The team that Mt. SAC jumped into the lead, American River, finished just three points outside the winners, making for a near three-way tie at the finish.
Sierra also managed to leapfrog American River, notably earning top-eight finishes by five swimmers, and closing with a much-needed 400 free relay victory.

Major props to Coach Breitbart and staff. 7 out of the last 10 State Championships have been claimed by the Sierra College Men. Incredible consistency especially considering these athletes are only there for two seasons. Go Wolverines!!
Was honestly an incredible experience to announce. Never seen a meet like this end with a tie for the team title.
Oh and it was the first team title ever for the Long Beach women they were psyched
