Cal Sweeps Triton Invite As Torri Huske Goes Three-For-Three In Free Events

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The California women’s swimming & diving team came out on top of the season-opening Triton Invitational after another dominant showing on day two of the meet. The Golden Bears tallied 1,202 points in the five-team meet that took place at Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla.

The final standings reflected that of the day-one leaderboard with No. 3 Stanford (898.5) in second, host UC San Diego (619.5) in third, Hawai’i (517) in fourth, and UC Santa Barbara (454) in fifth.

The day began with Teagan O’Dell winning the first race of her collegiate career. The freshman finished the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:10.33 and sophomore Camille Henveaux came in third at 4:18.75. O’Dell would go on to win the 200-yard backstroke as well touching the wall at 1:55.72 and Henveaux posted a 16:30.2 to win the 1650-yard freestyle.

The Bears took the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly with Mia West setting a personal record of 52.13 and junior Ava Chavez finishing right behind her with a time of 53.18. That was one of two PR’s set by West as the sophomore finished second in the 100-yard freestyle at 48.67.

Freshman Silje Slyngstadli had a strong NCAA debut winning both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:00.01 and 2:11.23.

The first meet of the year concluded with another relay win as Cal’s ‘A’ 200-yard freestyle team of Sydney GriscavageMary-Ambre MoluhFemke Hoppenbrouwer, and West came in at 1:30.23, just 0.43 seconds ahead of the Cardinal’s top quartet.

The Bears now look ahead to their tri-meet with Stanford and No. 18 Arizona State on Oct. 24 & 25. Day one will take place on the farm and day two will be hosted at Spieker Aquatics Center.

LA JOLLA – The Cal men’s swimming & diving team concluded the Triton Invitational Saturday after a dominant showing on the second day of the meet, finishing on top of the standings with 1476 points at Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla.

The Golden Bears won eight of the nine events on the second day, while at least two swimmers and two relay teams placed among the top eight in each event.

Cal started the day with swimmers taking the top three spots in the 400-yard individual medley, led by freshman Ryan Erisman in a personal-best time of 3:44.88. Sophomore Freddy Klein (3:52.73) and freshman Norvy Clontz (3:56.44) followed behind to finish second and third, respectively.

The Bears continued to show their depth in the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke after filling the top three spots in each event. Freshman Casper Puggaard (46.65) won the 100 fly, while freshman Kenny Barnicle (1:37.07) touched first in the 200 free and Sophomore Yamato Okadome (51.79) claimed the 100 breast.

Junior Humberto Najera closed the morning session with a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:42.15, ahead of Puggaard, who took second after clocking a 1:44.94.

Klein (15:17.06) and freshman Julien Rousseau (15:29.02) handled business in the 1650-yard freestyle after touching first and second, respectively. Sophomore Nans Mazellier secured the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 42.84.

Sophomore Zachary Tan was the lone swimmer in the 200-yard breaststroke to swim under the two-minute mark after clocking a 1:57.36.

Cal concluded the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay after the A-group of Mazellier, sophomore Lucca Battaglini, fifth-year Evan Petty and junior Samuel Quarles clocked a 1:19.03.

SAN DIEGO – No. 3 Stanford women’s swimming opened the 2025-26 campaign with a second-place finish at the UCSD Triton Invitational, totaling 898.5 points across the two-day meet.

The Cardinal trailed only No. 5 California, which won the meet with 1,202 points, while UC San Diego (619.5), Hawai‘i (517) and UC Santa Barbara (454) rounded out the field.

Torri Huske led the way for Stanford with three individual victories, winning the 50 free in 22.06 seconds on Friday before adding titles in the 200 free (1:44.45) and 100 free (48.34) on Saturday.

Caroline Bricker collected runner-up finishes in each of her individual events, placing second in the 200 fly (1:57.97), 400 IM (4:15.26) and 200 breast (2:13.31). Lucy Thomas also earned silver in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.12.

Lucy Bell added a pair of third-place finishes in both butterfly events, touching in 1:58.30 in the 200 fly and 53.35 in the 100 fly, while Bailey O’Regan clocked a 17:08.78 in the 1650 free to earn the event bronze. Levenia Sim also added a third-place finish of her own in the 100 backstroke (54.42) and was Stanford’s top finisher in the 200 back with a 1:59.44 swim.

Freshmen Addie Robillard and Annam Olasewere each impressed in their first collegiate meets, both earning podium finishes. Robillard placed third in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.05) and added a fifth-place effort in the 100 breast (1:02.23), while Olasewere swam a 22.91 to finish third in the 50 free. Fellow classmate Ella Jablonski also earned a top-five finish, posting a 2:02.35 in the 200 IM.

Emily Thompson recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 200 IM (2:01.86) and 400 IM (4:20.91), while Kayla Wilson and Sophie Duncan rounded out Stanford’s top-five individual finishers with fifth-place showings in the 200 free (1:49.63) and 1650 free (17:16.08), respectively.

Stanford’s relays also impressed, highlighted by a 200 medley relay win from the quartet of Alana Berlin, Thomas, Huske and Olasewere, who combined for a first-place time of 1:36.50. The Cardinal capped the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 free relay, as Olasewere, Huske, Gigi Johnson and Thomas posted a 1:30.66.

Stanford resumes action on October 24, hosting the first leg of a two-day tri-meet with Arizona State and California at Avery Aquatic Center.

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego wrapped its annual Triton Invite at Canyonview Aquatic Center after 30 events, finishing second of five teams with 1,254 points. Following the three sessions over the weekend, the UC San Diego men earned 634.5 points finishing third of four teams, while the women earned 619.5 points finishing third of five teams.

California came out on top on both the men’s and women’s sides earning 1476 and 1202 points respectively. The Golden Bears earned the top spot of the Triton Invite with a combined 2,678 points.

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The University of Hawai’i men’s and women’s swim teams wrapped up their final day of the UCSD Triton Invitational with multiple top-five placements at the Canyonview Aquatic Center on Saturday.. The combined team for Hawai’i finished in third place with a score of 1171.5. The men’s squad finished second with a score of 654.5, while the women team finished in fourth with a final tally of 517 points.

The Rainbow Warrior’s 200 free relay squad of Karol OstrowskiFinn BrophyMario Surkovic and Regan Richardson set a new pool record holding off California for gold with a blazing-fast time of 1:18.99. It marked UH’s top finish of the afternoon. The Rainbow Wahine 200 free relay team comprised of Holly NelsonZosia TyminskaAziza Meyer and Quincy Key captured bronze, touching the wall at 1:32.17.

Brophy secured the Rainbow Warriors’ top finish in individual competition, placing second in the 100 free with a mark of 43.31, followed by Surkovic who finished third with a time of 43.52. Surkovic also placed fourth in the 100 breast with a time of 54.65.

Freshmen Brooke Bennett and Aoife Harkin had strong performances in the 1650 free. Bennett finished second with a mark of 17:00.12 to earn the Rainbow Wahine’s highest finish in individual competition this weekend Harkin finished close behind coming in fourth with a time of 17:09.90.

In other standout swims, Ostrowski finished in fourth in the 100 fly, touching the wall at 47.41, while Eric Kupsky strung together a pair of top-five performances, placing fourth in the 400 IM (3:58.78) and fifth in the 1650 free (15:59.19).

UH returns to home for a pair of dual meets against Grand Canyon on Oct. 24-25 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. On Friday, diving will start at 4:30 p.m. HT with swimming starting at 5:30 p.m. HT. On Saturday, Oct. 25, diving will kick off at 10:00 a.m. HT with swimming beginning at 11:00 a.m. HT. The meet, which is UH’s official home opener, will also mark the season debuts for the Rainbow Wahine and Rainbow Warrior dive teams.

Santa Barbara, Calif. – The Gauchos wrapped up sessions two and three at the UC San Diego Invitational. After the third session of the invitational, the Men’s team placed fourth and the Women’s team finished in fifth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Day two in San Diego was highlighted by the Men’s 200-yard breaststroke, where the Gauchos took three top-five finishes. Jack Nugent (2:01.94),  Michael Peterson (2:02.96), and Connor Martilla (2:03.72). Elek Zettle placed fourth individually in the Men’s 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.54. Ashley Ray finished fourth individually as well in the Women’s 100-yard breaststroke.

The Women’s 200 Yard Free Relay team, made up of Caitlin BrownAshley RaySamantha Banos, and Eugenie Lanilis, took sixth place. The Men’s relay consisted of Zachary TamusaitisBryden ThielenhausMason Wendler, and Elek Zettle placed eighth in the 200 free relay.

The Blue and Gold will travel back into town this week as the Gauchos prepare to send a group of swimmers to Long Beach, California, for the MPSF Open Water Championships next week.
