BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women’s swimming and diving team improved to 2-2 on the season and 2-1 in Mid-American Conference competition. UB defeated the visiting Ohio Bobcats (0-5, 0-3 MAC) by a score of 218-81.

To start the day off, the team of Nicole RoitenbergKatie PollockAndrea Ernst and Jillian Lawton finished in first in a time of 3:48.96 in the 400 medley relay. Finishing in second was Madison McDonoughAnna VitolinsClarice Fisher and Katelyn Burns in 3:52.50.

Brittney Beetcher won the 1,000 freestyle with an exhilarating finish as she came back to win by .06 seconds. Her time of 10:09.07 is now the seventh on UB’s all-time list.

Antonia Naccarella and Jenna Krull finished the 200 freestyle with a one-two punch to show UB’s dominance early. Naccarella finished in a season-best time of 1:53.26 as Krull also finished with a season-best time of 1:54.74.

UB finished 1-2-3 in the 100 fly as the trio of Jillian Lawton (57.54), Andrea Ernst (57.89) and Sydnie Sovinsky (57.96) claimed the podium.

Katelyn Burns finished the day with two individual wins, a relay win and helped a relay to a second place finish. Burns finished the 50 freestyle in 23.64 and the 100 freestyle in 51.71. In the 200 freestyle relay, she helped the team to a second place finish with a time of 1:35.39.

In the diving well, the Bulls swept the podium with a complimentary fourth place finish in the 1-meter dive. Victoria Franz claimed first place with a score of 308.55, Patricia Arceri (270.75) finished in second, as Isobel Holcomb (253.80) claimed third and Journi Northorp (252.75) topped it off with a fourth place finish. In the 3-meter, the Victoria Franz (293.18) claimed first, Patricia Arceri (288.98) finished second as Journi Northorp (285.15) rounded out the top-three with Isobel Holcomb (259.88) finishing in fourth. Both of Arceri’s scores are NCAA Diving Zone qualifying scores.

The Bulls are back in action next Saturday as they will travel to Toledo, Ohio to take on the Toledo Rockets. The meet will start at 11 a.m. and will air on ESPN3.

AMHERST, N.Y. — The Ohio swimming & diving team (0-5, 0-3 MAC) fell to Mid-American Conference foe Buffalo (2-2, 2-1 MAC), 218-81, this afternoon in a dual meet at the Alumni Arena Pool and Natatorium.

Freshman Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio) won the 100-yard backstroke for the Bobcats with a time of 57.33. She also turned in a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a 52.95.

Junior Katherine Garrity (Eagan, Minn.) posted a pair of second-place finishes, finishing as the runner-up in both the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.03) and 1000-yard freestyle (10:09.13).

Junior Samantha Glass (Villa Hills, Ky.) took second place in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.60 and third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.63. Freshman McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.13. Grau and Glass finished second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard individual medley, with Grau timing in at 2:07.76 and Glass recording a 2:08.97.

Senior Emma Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland) finished third in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.52) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.71).

Freshman Grace Riddle (Canal Winchester, Ohio) rounded out the 12 top-three individual finishes for the Bobcats, placing third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.57.

Ohio’s ‘B’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Riddle, Fortman, freshman Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ark.) and freshman Maya Conte (Brecksville, Ohio) combined for a second-place finish in 1:39.63.

Ohio will be back at home at the Ohio University Aquatic Center next Saturday (Jan. 25) as it hosts MAC foe Ball State at 1 p.m. ET.
