SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women’s swimming and diving team grabbed their second team win of the season with a 185-115 victory over Providence College on Friday night.

The Black and Gold earned 11 first place finishes in the meet.

Notes and Notables

  • Sydney Barnett helped the Bulldogs get off on the right foot by taking first place in the 1 meter dive on Thursday night. Barnett tallied a score of 233.15 in the event.
  • To kickoff Friday night, the 200 yard medley relay team of Julia StenhardElayna PistrinMarcella Figueroa, and Jill Carline laid down a 1:47.96 to get the Bulldogs first win of the evening. The team just missed the pool record by .72 seconds.
  • Makayla Pearce started her night by putting up a pool record breaking 1:43.86 in the 1650 yard freestyle. Pearce smashed the previous pool record by exactly six seconds.
  • Pearce also won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.92.
  • Charlee LeGallais grabbed her first individual win of the season by swimming a 1:56.84 in the 200 yard freestyle.
  • The Black and Gold picked up a 1-2 finish in the 100 yard backstroke. Reagan Lord finished in the top spot with a 58.55 while Jacqui Fox took second with her time of 59.52.
  • Lord added to her win total for the night by taking the 200 yard backstroke as well with a time of 2:09.16. This is the second meet in a row that Lord has placed first in both backstroke events.
  • Julia Stenhard and Ava Mustacciuolo had two back to back finishes on the night. First Stenhard raced a 2:09.61 to earn first in the 200 yard butterfly with Mustacciuolo taking second with her time of 2:14.41. They then took the top two spots again in the 100 yard butterfly. Stenhard put down a 58.37 for first while Mustacciuolo swam a 1:00.19.
  • Elayna Pistrin grabbed her first event win of the season by swimming a 2:24.63 in 200 yard breaststroke.
  • Marcella Figueroa picked up an individual win on the night by laying down a 24.59 in the 50 yard freestyle.
  • To round out the meet, the 200 yard freestyle relay team swam a 1:40.85 to earn the victory. That team consisted of Jacqui FoxCharlee LeGallaisElise Richardson, and Marcella Figueroa.

Coach’s comments on the meet win…

“Exciting meet. We swam very well. Diving did an awesome job last night of setting the tone. We appreciate the great energy on deck from all! We had quite a few people who won multiple events. Great to win all the relays. We are in a good place and will continue to improve as the season progresses.”

Next Up

The Bulldogs make the trip to Fordham next Saturday (Nov. 11th) for a 1:00 pm meet against the Rams.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men’s swimming and diving team won their first meet of the season by taking down Providence College 175-125 Friday night.

The Bulldogs took home 10 event wins en route to victory.

Notes and Notables

  • Christopher Buonocore started the meet off with wins in both the 1 and 3 meter dives for Bryant. He scored a 271.60 in the 1 meter and a 245 in the 3 meter. Will Arnold backed Buonocore up in both events with scores of 229 and 217.45.
  • The men made it a clean sweep of the 200 yard medley relay for the Black and Gold by posting a 1:33.84 after the women won the event as well just minutes before. The team consisted of Griffin LajoieGustav PerssonJames Misto, and Conner Loftstrom.
  • Leo Luna picked up right where the relay team left off by swimming a 16:20.48 in 1650 yard freestyle to grab the win.
  • Nick Andrews earned his first career event win by putting down a 1:45.61 in the 200 yard freestyle. Loftstrom was right behind Andrews and raced a 1:46.18 for second place in the event.
  • Loftstrom picked up a solo win on the night with his time of 47.70 in the 100 yard freestyle.
  • Lajoie swept the backstroke events by first swimming a 52.42 men 100 yard backstroke. He then took first place in the 200 yard backstroke for the second meet in a row with a time of 1:56.09. Jack Ossi followed up Lajoie in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.47 to take second place.
  • Gustav Persson grabbed his first event win as a Bulldog in the 200 yard breaststroke by racing a 2:09.79.
  • James Misto also picked up his first individual career win by laying down a time of  51.93 in the 100 yard butterfly.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs competed at nearby Bryant University on Friday, Nov. 3. The women’s team was defeated 185-115, while the men dropped a 175-125 decision.

Lauren Wagner won two individual events on the women’s side to highlight the evening. She claimed victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.47) and the 200-yard IM (2:14.10). On the men’s side, Aidan Puk claimed wins in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.21) and 500-yard freestyle. He also led off in the 200-yard freestyle relay, which Providence won with a time of 1:25.73.

WHAT’S NEXT:
• The women’s team will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 8 against the University of Rhode Island. The dual meet is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. at Taylor Natatorium in Providence, R.I. Both the men’s and women’s teams will head to Kingston, R.I. on Nov. 17-19 to compete at the Harold Anderson Invitational. Each day, trials will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the finals are slated to start at 5:45 p.m.
