“Best of the Rest” Butterflyer Alex Goodman (2027) Verbally Commits to Georgia

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Alex Goodman from Pennsauken, New Jersey, has verbally committed to swim and study at the University of Georgia beginning in the 2027-28 school year. He wrote to SwimSwam:

“All Glory To God. I’m extremely excited and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Georgia! First, I would like to thank God for allowing me to be in this position. As well as my parents, family, coaches, friends, and teammates that have pushed me to become the person I am today. Special thanks to my coaches Paul and Allie for believing in me and getting me to this point and beyond. Lastly, I want to thank Coaches Neil and Mike for allowing me this opportunity to be a part of their program. Excited to be a dawg. GO DAWGS🐶🐾”

Goodman is a junior at Paul VI High School in Haddon Township. He swims year-round with Jersey Wahoos and specializes in butterfly and freestyle. We named him one of the “Best of the Rest” on our Way Too Early list of boys’ swimming recruits in the high school class of 2027.

At 2024 Winter Juniors East, he placed 18th in the 100 fly and 11th in the 200 fly and clocked PBs of 48.08/1:46.40. He also swam a lifetime best in the 200 IM (1:51.42) in prelims.

A month later, at the TYR Winter Invitational, he kicked off long-course season with PBs in the 200 free (1:53.77), 400 free (4:17.78), 100 fly (54.99), 200 fly (2:05.35), and 200 IM (2:12.07).

The following month, it was back to SCY, and he updated his best times in a number of off-events at the Jersey Wahoos’ Super Bowl Splash: 50 free (21.35), 500 free (4:34.95), 100 back (50.14), 200 back (1:50.19), 100 breast (1:01.06), and 400 IM (4:02.16). At Southern Premier, he lowered his 50 to 21.17 and dropped 1.1 seconds in the 100 free (44.91) and 4.6 in the 200 free (1:39.66).

Throughout the rest of long-course season, he lowered his PBs in the 50 fly (25.72), 100 fly (54.99), 200 fly (2:03.50), 100 free (51.01), and 200 free (1:50.54). All but the 100 fly came from Summer Juniors, where he finaled in the 100 free (26th), 200 free (18th), and 200 fly (31st).

The Georgia butterfly group is led by NCAA record-holder and World Champion Luca Urlando, a senior. Goodman will overlap with Drew Hitchcock, Sascha Macht, Jayson Ross, Natan Silva, and Tyler Grafmiller. He will join the Bulldogs’ class of 2031 with Camden Cook.

Best SCY times:

  • 100 fly – 48.08
  • 200 fly – 1:46.40
  • 50 free – 21.17
  • 100 free – 44.91
  • 200 free – 1:39.66
