DURHAM, N.H. — Senior captain Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.) of the UNH swimming and diving team broke a 35-year-old Swasey Pool record previously held by former U.S. Olympian Jenny Thompson to highlight Day 1 of the Wildcats’ Family Weekend dual meet against Central Connecticut State.
Mahoney won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.98 seconds to knock Thompson’s 1990 time of 23.21 seconds off the perch for No. 1 in Swasey Pool history. The accomplishment comes six days after Mahoney set the Forbush Natatorium pool record at Vermont in the 50-free (23.52).
“After Audrey set that UVM pool record last weekend, I gave her a personal challenge for this weekend’s meet,” UNH head coach Josh Willman said. “She really came through, and it was fun to watch!”
Through 10 events, UNH has built a commanding 123-44 lead over CCSU, with nine more events on tap Saturday beginning at 11am.
The Wildcats swept multiple races and posted standout performances across the board. Junior Sydney Leblic (Madrid, Spain) led the way with wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 54.95 seconds) and 200-yard individual medley (2:09.62). Junior captain Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.) added a victory in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.50) and contributed to the 200-freestyle relay team that finished second (1:39.18).
Junior Emily Loren Wright (Ventura, Calif.) claimed the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.76) and helped power UNH’s top 400-yard medley relay squad to a win in 3:52.44 alongside Izzie Campion (Auckland, New Zealand), Mahon, and Mahoney.
In distance events, senior captain Carolyn Nelson (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) paced the Wildcats in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching first in 10:34.86, followed closely by sophomore Lydia Hart (Cornwall, Ontario/10:36.79) and freshman Miriam Youel (West Hartford, Conn./10:47.25) for a sweep of the top three spots.
UNH also excelled in the backstroke, with senior Caitlin Mason (Charleston, S.C./58.82) and sophomore Amelia Labno (Rosemount, Minn./59.45) finishing first and third in the 100-yard event.

DURHAM, N.H. — The UNH women’s swimming and diving team powered past Central Connecticut State University, 243-110, in a two-day Family Weekend dual meet at Swasey Pool that concluded Saturday, highlighted by strong relay performances and standout efforts in the diving well and mid-to-long distance races.
UNH (2-0, 1-0 America East) opened Saturday’s session with a commanding win in the 200-yard medley relay, as the quartet of Amelia Labno (Rosemount, Minn.), Emily Loren Wright (Ventura, Calif.), Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.), and Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.) touched first in 1 minute, 46.55 seconds. The Wildcats also claimed second in the event with a 1:51.28 finish from Izzie Campion (Auckland, New Zealand), Leyla Oversluizen (Zwijndrecht, Netherlands), Caitlin Mason (Charleston, S.C.), and Madeline Chen (California, Md.).
In the 400-yard individual medley, Maddie Serfass (Hershey, Pa.) led a 1-2-3 sweep for UNH, winning in 4:33.77. She was followed by Trinity Devanney (Gulf Breeze, Fla./4:36.94) and Sydney Leblic (Madrid, Spain/4:40.83), giving the Wildcats maximum points in the grueling event.
Mahoney continued her sprint dominance with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle (51.80), while teammates Chen (55.29) and Marisa White (Apex, N.C./55.40) added key points.
Backstroke depth was on display in the 200-yard backstroke, where Mason (2:06.48), Labno (2:07.68), and Campion (2:07.84) finished second through fourth behind CCSU’s Sophie Milhomens.
On the boards, Grace Blume (Dedham, Mass.) swept both diving events, scoring 288.75 in the 1-meter and 269.93 in the 3-meter.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Mahon earned her second win of the day with a 56.29 performance, and Kelsey Mayers (Waxhaw, N.C.) took second in 59.74.
Distance freestyle was another stronghold for UNH. Lydia Hart (Cornwall, Ontario) captured the 500-yard freestyle in 5:06.32, followed by Carolyn Nelson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./5:08.38) and Serfass (5:13.18) for another sweep. Wright added a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.15), with Oversluizen and Devanney finishing second and fourth.
The meet concluded with a thrilling 400-yard freestyle relay, where UNH’s A-team of Mahoney, Hart, White, and Labno finished just behind CCSU in 3:35.79, while the B-team clocked 3:42.63.

The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team completed the first night of a two-day dual at the University of New Hampshire on Friday. The Catamounts lead the event 123-44.
CCSU opened the meet with a win the 200-freestyle relay, coming from behind at the midway point to pull away to capture the event by more than a second. The Blue Devils mounted five top-three finishes in the individual races that were competed Friday evening.
The two teams are back in the pool for the conclusion of the meet Saturday at 11:00 am. The meet can be streamed live on America East.TV
Gabby Spaciano placed third to lead the 200 freestylers, with a swim of 1:57.75, while Sophie Milhomens was fifth at 1:59.31
O’Leary (24.51) and Grace M. Young (24.61) captured second and third place respectively in the 50-freestyle
Maggie Rutledge led the 1,000 group with a fourth-place effort in a time of 10:52.03
STROKES
Reigning league rookie of the week Addison Kenney took silver in the 100-backstroke, with a time of 59.36, while fellow rookie Francesca Fusco was fifth, stopping the clock at 1:00.93 in the 100 backstroke
Milhomens was the fastest Blue Devil in the 200 butterfly, with a 2:12.29
Dunningan (2:12.51) and Gabi Wroblewski (2:13.18) were fourth and fifth in the 200 IM
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team completed the second day of its two-day dual at New Hampshire with an individual win and a relay win. The Wildcats won the meet 243-110.
Sophie Milhomens posted a win in the 200-backstroke on Saturday and the Blue Devils finished the day with a win in the 400-freestyle relay. On the day, CCSU posted nine top-three finishes.
CCSU will be back in the pool on Halloween when it travels to a double-dual with SCSU and Wagner, hosted by the Owls in New Haven, CT.
RELAYS
Megan Dunningan finished out a come-from-behind effort in the final event of the day, as the relay of Katrine O’Leary 954.96), Lauryn Cowing (53.76) Grace M. Young (53.12) and Dunningan (53.77) stormed back to win the 400 free relay in a time of 3:35.61, .18 in front of UNH
Kenney (27.44), Grace Young (31.16), Lauryn Cowing (24.60) and O’Leary (24.60) clocked a 1:49.41 in the opening 200-medley relay to place second
DIVING
Jewelle Maziarz took the second spot in both diving events on Saturday, scoring 231.15 points on the 3-meter board and 251.70 on the 1-meter board
Kaitlyn Carroll was third in both events with 239.03 points on the low board and 218.10 on the 3-meter
STROKES
Milhomens led from the start on her way to winning the 200-backstroke in a time of 2:05.24, 1.25 seconds clear of the runner-up
Gabi Wroblewski was the top finisher in the 400 IM for the Blue Devils, touching at 4:43.12
Fusco (1:00.42), Cowing (1:00.69) and Kenney (1:00.78) went 3-4-5 in the 100-butterfly
Grace Young took the third spot in the 200-breaststroke with a 2:29.94 effort
FREESTYLE
Grace M. Young finished second in the 100 freestyle, with Spaciano in third place with a time of 54.99
Milhomens was the top Blue Devil in the 500 freestyle, with a swim of 5:16.29, just in front of Maggie Rutledge, who touched .63 seconds after her teammate
