On the final day of the 2026 Big 12 Championships, Arizona State University graduate student Remi Fabiani shaved 0.16 seconds off of the Big 12 Conference record in the 100 free with a time of 40.67. He also got under the meet record, both of which were previously held by his teammate Jonny Kulow. His performance tonight moves the Luxembourg native up to the #9 performer in history. Fabiani, who arrived at ASU this season, has shown immense progress since transferring from Cal Baptist. Prior to ASU, his bests were 18.82/41.23/1:33.72—he’s since dropped those times to 18.62/40.67/1:31.23.
Fabiani has been on fire so far this meet: he broke the Big 12 meet record in the 200 free, anchored ASU’s 800 free relay in 1:30.88 , led off the 200 free relay in 18.62, and split 40.38 on the free leg of the 400 medley relay. All of the aforementioned relays were either conference or meet records.
Split Comparison:
| Distance | Remi Fabiani, 2026 Big 12s (New Conf. Record) | Jonny Kulow, 2025 NCAAs (Prev Conf. Record) |
| 50 | 19.40 | 19.58 |
| 100 | 40.67 (21.27) | 40.83 (21.25) |
Compared to Kulow’s record swim, Fabiani was out nearly 2 tenths faster and came back right around the same pace. Tonight, Kulow finished 2nd and posted a season best time, shaving 0.07 seconds off what he swam at the CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge in November against Virginia. Kulow took 6th in this event at NCAAs last year, while Fabiani was 13th.

I’ll give you a pat on the back for that one, buddy

Luka Mijatovic with an earthquake swim. 4:05.76 obliterates the nag. Leon’s 4:02 went from being untouchable to being approached by a high schooler in the blink of an eye.
Actually inhuman. Him and Maurer are going to save the 4free for the US
Leon was the first sub 4;06 and that was less than two years ago. Now we’ve got a 16 yr old doing it
If anyone is interested in the full video. Insane swim to witness in person! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcQdQCD4gv8

Not all heroes wear capes. Thanks for being there and thinking to pick up the camera!
GOAT
Two observations: (1) he barely goes 5 m underwater for most of his turns, and (2) the water looks really choppy: there were even people warming up/down on the side lanes. Definitely a lot of room for improvement, despite the incredible time.
Seriously… his walls are terrible by NCAA standards. Unless something goes wrong this summer he’s gonna blow away that 400 American record.
