Andrew Maksymowski from Irvine, California, has announced his commitment to the University of Southern California for 2026-27. He confirmed to SwimSwam:

Maksymowski, whom we ranked #8 as a sophomore and considered a “Best of the Rest” freestyler as a junior, originally verbaled to the University of Texas in October 2024. With his commitment to USC, Maksymowski will head 40 miles up Interstate 5 to his new home at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
Maksymowski attends Northwood High School and swims year-round with Irvine Novaquatics. He is in the middle of his senior season, but a year ago, at the 2025 CIF-Southern Section Division I Championships, he won the 200 free (1:35.61) and 500 free (4:23.91) and anchored the winning 200 free (20.12) and runner-up 400 free (43.55) relays.
He had a big meet in December at Winter Juniors West, finaling in the 100 free (11th), 200 free (5th), 500 free (3rd), and 200 fly (13th) and notching lifetime bests in the 50 free (20.63 relay leadoff/19.62 anchor), 100 free (43.94), and 500 free (4:18.06).
Last summer, he hit LCM bests in the 400 free (3:55.65), 800 free (8:12.39), 1500 free (15.53.46), and 50 back 27.98) at Speedo Junior National Championships. He placed 22nd in the 100 free, 10th in the 200 free, 6th in the 400 free, 12th in the 800 free, and 22nd in the 1500 free.
He will join Ethan Linville and Ryan McDonald in the Trojans’ class of 2030.

USC was 7th at BIG’s.. I don’t make the rules. For a powerhouse school with elite facilities, academics and the Southern California appeal, they recruit horribly and develop talent even worse. Something has to change.

Just listened to that. As a Texas fan this makes me sad – watching swimmers like Maksymowski improve over 4 years is more fun to watch. The Marsh mercenary approach has always bothered me. But I get that Bowman is tasked to win and these very strict roster limits perhaps make this model a necessity.
Here’s hoping the SEC relaxes the roster limits a bit.
I always enjoyed watching Eddie take a random kid and turn them into a monster. Shebat came in with almost not many knowing his name and finished as a 44.2/1:36 backstroker, 1:39 IMer, probable 43 flyer and an animal on sprint free relays. It’s been so fun to watch Gould the last two years and Camden Taylor the last 3. His move to the 200 IM was one of the more fun things I’ve seen.
I feel like Maksymowski got real unlucky with the roster limit stuff. What’s the coaching staff supposed to do when he’s a 200/500 free guy who goes 1:35 and Texas has a flier coming in who goes 1:34 and a sprinter who goes 1:36?
