For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ethan Linville from Clovis, California will stay in state as he has announced his commitment to USC beginning in fall 2026. Linville was a Best of the Rest ranked recruit during SwimSwam’s Way Too Early Rankings at the end of his sophomore year.

“I am honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at the University of Southern California! I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for believing in me and pushing me to achieve my goals, especially Coach Mark and Coach Fecht. Huge thanks to Coach Lea and Coach Brooks for this huge opportunity. FIGHT ON!!”

Linville swims for Clovis Swim Club out of Clovis, CA. He most recently competed at Summer Juniors to cap off his long course season. While in Irvine, Linville swam to numerous best times including a 16:10.24 1500 free, 4:02.30 400 free, and a 34.01 in the 50 breast. His highest finish was 43rd in the 1500 free.

He began his senior year this fall at Clovis North High School. This past May, Linville finished 6th in the 500 free at the CIF State Championship as he swam to a lifetime best 4:24.58. He was slightly faster in prelims with a 4:23.62.

Linville’s Best SCY Times Are:

  • 200 free: 1:37.36
  • 500 free: 4:23.62
  • 1000 free: 9:06.32
  • 1650 free: 15:19.65

The USC men finished 4th out of nine teams at the 2025 Big Ten Championships. The team scored 878 points and were led by Krzysztof Chmielewski who scored 78 individual points.

Based on his best times, Linville would have already made an impact at the conference level. His best time in the 1650 free would have been 20th this past season. It took a 1:36.52 in the 200 free and a 4:20.80 in the 500 free to make it back at the Big Ten level. Krzysztof Chmielewski was the team’s lone scorer as he was 3rd in the 1650 free in a 14:46.87.

Linville will arrive next fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Tristan Furlow and Ryan McDonald. Furlow is also a distance freestyler.
