All-American Sprinter Gabby Higgins Verbally Commits to Wisconsin

Gabby Higgins of East Grand Rapids, Michigan has made a verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin-Madison beginning next fall.

“I am happy to announce my commitment to swim for the next four years at the University of Wisconsin – Madison! From my first conversation with the coaches to my visit, I have loved everything about Wisconsin. The level of academics, the coaching philosophy and the team overall make me excited to join the team in Madison next year!”

Higgins is a senior at East Grand Rapids High School who specializes in the 50 and 100 freestyles. She was a NISCA/Speedo All-American in the 50 free in both 2014 and 2015, and in the 100 free in 2015. Higgins anchored the 200 and 400 freestyle relays for East Grand Rapids in each of the past three years at the Michigan State Division 2 Swimming Championships, and as such has been a member of six state-champion relays. Her best split on the 4×50 was 22.63, and on the 4×100, 49.92.

Higgins swims year round for East Grand Rapids Aquatics (EGRA Waves). She competed in the 50/100 freestyle events at 2015 Speedo Winter Junior Nationals East, and in the 50/100 free and 50 fly at 2016 NCSA Spring Swimming Championships. A two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, her best times are:

  • 50 Free: 23.50 / 26.70
  • 100 Free: 50.93 / 59.02

Higgins will join the Badgers with fellow commits Avalon Schultz and Kelsi Artim.
