Alex Parent from Wilbraham, Massachusetts has announced his commitment to Virginia Tech beginning in fall 2026. Parent flips his commitment after previously committing to Alabama alongside his twin brother Zach Parent.

I’m grateful to the support of my family, coaches teammates, and friends for helping me become the person and athlete I am today. Thank you to Coach Sergio, Mason, and Albert for trusting me, believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I can’t wait to level up my swimming as a Hokie! #virginiatech #hokie”
Parent swims for Sunrise Swim Club. He finished his long course season at Futures in Ocala. There he posted numerous lifetime best times. Those included a 4:01.86 400 free, a 8:18.26 800 free, 15:39.76 1500 free, and a 4:31.42 400 IM.
He finished his short course yards season in March at Ithaca Sectionals. He was 3rd in the 500 free in a 4:26.99 marking his first time under the 4:30 mark. He also was 3rd in the 1650 free in a 15:31.29, a season best.
Parent’s Best SCY Times Are:
- 1650 free: 15:14.31
- 1000 free: 9:10.30
- 500 free: 4:26.99
- 400 IM: 3:57.43
The Virginia Tech men were 6th at the 2025 ACC Championships and went on to finish 10th at the 2025 NCAA Championships. Carles Coll Marti led the way and was highlighted by a 3rd place finish in the 200 breast at NCAAs.
Based on his best times, Parent already has the potential to make an impact at the conference level. His best time in the 1650 free would have been 15th this past season. The team’s highest finisher was Lee Naber who was 12th in a 15:03.59.
Parent will arrive in fall 2026 as a member of the class of 2030 along with Erkhes Enkhtur, Matthew Wolfe, and Alex Grocholski.
