We’ve all heard it, the rise of AI will replace millions of jobs. Every week, there’s another headline warning us that accountants, marketers, analysts, and even lawyers might one day be replaced by machines. The world is changing fast. But let’s take a step back and ask an important question: who can’t be replaced?
You’ve probably seen predictions that plumbers, electricians, and skilled tradespeople will become the next wave of millionaires because their work is hands-on, human, and essential. I agree! but I’d add one more profession to that list that almost nobody talks about: swim instructors and swim coaches who will scale their reach
Think about it. AI can generate code, write emails, and design logos, but it will never get in the water with a crying toddler. It can’t build trust with a nervous child or celebrate the moment they take their first stroke on their own. It can’t teach water safety, build confidence, or give a high-five that changes a kid’s life.
ChatGPT can write about swimming but it can’t teach your baby how to swim.
And that’s exactly why I believe the next generation of entrepreneurs, millionaires, and change-makers will come from the learn to swim industry.
I’ve seen it firsthand. I built my own swim school from the ground up, and it completely changed my life. I’ve watched others, including former swimmers and coaches, follow the same path. They started small, teaching lessons at a local pool, and over time built thriving businesses that serve hundreds or thousands of families. These aren’t just jobs; they’re legacies built on community, purpose, and impact.
Swimming is part of the service industry, an industry that AI cannot automate. Parents will always need someone to keep their kids safe in and around water. Communities will always need people who can teach life skills, not just information.
