Late last week, Team Illinois swimmer Leah Hayes broke the 10 & under National Age Group Record in the 50 free at the Illinois Age Group Long Course Championships, swimming a 28.33, breaking the former record held by Adele Zyniewicz. Earlier this week, she and Team Indiana swimmer both were better than the old NAG Record in the 100 free.

On Saturday, a rivalry blossomed, as the 10-year old Zyniewicz from the Michiana YMCA took her record back, besting Hayes head-to-head with a 28.13, with Hayes swimming next to her in 28.43. Before Zyniewicz took it down almost two weeks ago, the record was a 28.58.

The swim came in the very next girls’ event after Hayes broke the 10 & under National Age Group Record in the in the 200 IM.

What a privilege to see those races today. First the 2IM and then the 50 free. I hope they will race each other for a long time.

The 200 free will be wild for sure tomorrow!!

28.3 is still good for a 12 year old boy
