Three-time Olympic champion Adam Peaty was reportedly escorted off a plane by police in Manchester on Sunday night amid an ongoing rift with family members.
Peaty, 30, had been receiving “threatening” messages during his stag party in Budapest, and feared he may be physically assaulted upon arrival in Manchester, according to The Standard.
The British breaststroke star told his fiancée, Holly Ramsay, of the threats, and she subsequently alerted police.
“Things escalated over the weekend when someone became increasingly abusive and threatening over text,” a source told The Standard. “Adam was trying to enjoy his stag do and was getting freaked out by it all.
“He then received a threat that he’d be met off the plane. He told Holly who called the cops after consulting with her family.”
Peaty was reportedly met by five armed police officers who escorted him off the plane, through the airport, and into a waiting car.
According to the Daily Mail, the threats came from Peaty’s older brother, 34-year-old James Peaty, who was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly sending threats to his brother. The elder Peaty brother was questioned by police for two days before being released on conditional bail, a spokesperson for Staffordshire Police told the Daily Mail.
Peaty has been in the British tabloids in recent weeks due to allegedly disinviting his mother, Caroline, from his upcoming wedding with Ramsay, which will take place around Christmas. Sources told The Standard the issues between the families go well beyond the wedding, however.
Peaty is a six-time Olympic medalist, winning gold in the men’s 100 breaststroke at the 2016 Games in Rio and then defending the title five years later in Tokyo. He also won gold in the mixed 4×100 medley relay in Tokyo, and earned consecutive silvers in the men’4×100 medley relay in Rio and Tokyo.
After an up-and-down few years, he made his third straight podium in the men’s 100 breast at the 2024 Olympics last summer in Paris, winning silver.
The eight-time world champion was in action as recently as three weeks ago, racing at the Toronto leg of the World Cup where he was the runner-up in both the men’s 50 and 100 breast, his best showings of the series after also racing in Carml and Westmont.

No one knows anyone’s family dynamics behind the scenes. My mother’s mom is one of the most amazing women who ever lived, but my dad’s mom sucked, and we were all much happier when she was cut off.
Quite opposite from using him as ATM, his mum sold her own belongings to afford a dress to be present at the weddings and was only told by Adam that the color of the dress is improper. Anyone who knows Caroline won’t say she sucks.
