Distance Specialist Dillon Brigman Flips Commitment from Louisville to DII Powerhouse Tampa (2026)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

After previously committing to the University of Louisville, Bolles’ Dillon Brigman has flipped his commitment to the University of Tampa for the Fall of 2026.

The Jacksonville native represents Bolles’ School, where he was a two-time finalist at the FHSAA Class 1A State Championships in November, finishing 4th in the 500 free, in 4:30.08. That time was just off his career best of 4:29.95 from the Speedo Winter Junior Championships East in December of 2023. He also touched 5th in the 200 free, notching a lifetime best of 1:39.15, over a second faster than his former best time of 1:40.95 from the Florida Senior Championship in March of 2025.

Brigman, a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, is a distance freestyle specialist, boasting a 1650 free best of 15:36.46, a time he set at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships East in 2023, but has only dipped under 16 minutes once since then, at the 2024 Florida Spring Senior Championships, where he touched in 15:44.17.

In addition to the distance freestyle skill, Brigman also holds a 400 IM best of 3:59.30 and a 100 breast best of 59.03, both of which were swum at the FAST HS State Time Trial in November.

Brigman holds impressive long-course best times of 1:54.38 in the 200 free and 4:00.67 in the 400 free, 8:19.08 in the 800 free, and 15:51.08 in the 1500 free.

In 2023, Brigman won the Junior Boys’ 5k title at Open Water Nationals, turning in the only time under one hour of all junior competitors in 59:01, more than a minute faster than the rest of the field.

According to his mother, Robin Brigman, Dillon survived a five-inch blood clot in his chest from swimming, resulting in his first rib being removed. Since then, Brigman has notched those best 100 breast and 400 IM times, as he aims to get back to his distance free personal best times.

Best Times SCY:

  • 200 Free: 1:39.15
  • 500 Free: 4:29.95
  • 1000 free: 9:22.77
  • 1650 Free: 15:36.46
  • 400 Free: 3:59.30

Brigman joins a Tampa team that recently captured the 2026 NCAA DII Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship title.

Brigman’s best times would have finished 20th in the 1650 free, 26th in the 500 free, and 28th in the 1000 free at those national championships.

While the times are just outside the scoring range at those DII National Championships, another factor is that Brigman has not swum a best time in the 500, 1000, or 1650 in over two years, with his 1000 free best of 9:22.77 coming at the 2022 RAFC Winter Classic.

If he can break those long-standing career bests, he could certainly become a regular scoring threat throughout his collegiate career.

Brigman joins Tyson Walker as the lone public commitments in Tampa’s 2026 recruiting class.

Headline should say, distance specialist Dillon Brigman survived a 5 inch blood clot in his chest caused by swimming by having it and his first rib removed and is back in the pool training hard to get back to his best times in the distance events and currently getting best times in other events like his 400 IM and 100 breast after all he’s been through.

That’s great info but a terrible headline.

Tampa is making DII swimming very interesting. Some of their swimmers are developing exceptionally well, looking forward to seeing what they can do in the future.
